OBERTO

OBERTO OBERTO stands for Oxford Brookes: Exploring Research Trends in Opera, and is the opera research group at Oxford Brookes University.

OBERTO – named after Giuseppe Verdi’s first opera – is the opera research unit at Oxford Brookes University and provides a forum for the investigation of opera in all of its interdisciplinary richness. We explore the history, performance and reception of opera; opera’s political, social and cultural contexts; and critical debates about opera both historical and contemporary. We hold an annual day-

conference each September as well as organising lectures and seminars by visiting academics and opera industry professionals. OBERTO also acts as a hub for the rich programme of opera-related teaching at Oxford Brookes, from undergraduate to doctoral levels. We now invite opera scholars and opera lovers to enter a dialogue with us through our Blog, to find out more about past events and forthcoming activities, and to meet the OBERTO team, including academics and research students.
