Lincoln congratulates DPhil candidate Maria Murad, who has been awarded an Early Career Visiting Fellowship from the Institute of Historical Research.

In her new blog, Maria writes: “I am grateful to the Lincoln community for nurturing my interest in history, despite me being an anthropologist by training. This has led my doctoral research, a history of anthropology, to be in a much stronger position than it would have been otherwise.”

Maria also reflects on the encouragement and sense of belonging she found at Lincoln: “No place feels more like home to me outside of my hometown in Kentucky than Lincoln.”

The Fellowship will enable Maria to spend six months in residence at the Institute during the writing-up period of her dissertation, while gaining invaluable experience among scholars working across history and other disciplines.

Yesterday was our annual celebration of Ascension Day, one of the real highlights of the Lincoln year. Bringing together students, Fellows, staff, alumni, the local community, and even our neighbours and friendly rivals from Brasenose, it’s a day unlike any other.

From the beating of the bounds to the Ivy Ale and the pennies thrown from the tower, our much-loved traditions were carried out with great enthusiasm.

Thank you to everyone who took part and shared this special day with us!💙

From Ziggy Stardust to Blackstar, Lincoln alumni enjoyed an unforgettable evening at the David Bowie Centre at the V&A East Storehouse.

The event was led by alumna Lucy Wagstaff (2018), Lead Cataloguer on the archive, who guided us through the exhibition before giving us the rare chance to view selected objects from the collection up close. Highlights included Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust platform shoes, a Vivienne Westwood skeleton earring worn during the Earthling era, a set model from the Diamond Dogs tour, and a guitar gifted to Bowie by Marc Bolan that was later used during the recording of Blackstar.

Huge thanks to Lucy and the wider David Bowie Centre team for such a fascinating evening. ✨
