Hertford College has probably played a larger role than any other Oxford college in the production of the most read book in the history of the world - the 1611 Authorised Version of the Bible.
William Tyndale, whose 1534 translation of the NT formed about 83% and the OT 76% of the 1611 edition, was a student at Magdalen Hall.
The version sold today as the 1611 version would be more accurately called the 1769 revision. The revision was made by Benjamin Blayney, Vice Principal of Hertford College. Blaney's revisions were the last which were ever approved to the 1611 text. Almost all of the changes consisted in revising the italicized words
