Osler House, the student body of the medical school, are looking for creative people to design artwork responding to COVID-19 to be displayed in the common area.

The piece should be sensitive to all experiences of the pandemic. Eligible candidates must be a medical student or a member of staff working within the NHS. We encourage entrants to think big!

Collaborative elements, or elements which incorporate some aspect of the student body, are desirable but not necessary. Artwork should be wall-mounted and can consist of multiple canvases. It should be able to be disassembled relatively easily and can take any format. Entries can be as abstract or as realistic as the artist desires. Please submit:

• 1 x A4 size mood board or sample encompassing your vision for the project, in PDF format
• No more than 250 words describing the background to your ideas
• No more than 50 words about yourself

Five entries will be shortlisted. Shortlisted entries will subsequently be voted upon by the student body in order to decide the final winner. The winning entrant will complete their proposed work, and subsequently receive a prize of £500. We reserve the right to split this sum between two recipients. Shortlisted runners-up will receive a prize of £50. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to help compile a collaborative project, should it be selected as the winning entry. All materials (and framing if appropriate) will be provided.

The deadline for applications is 23 October 2020.
The email address for submissions is [email protected]

ATTENTION ALL FORMER OSLER HOUSE ROWERS!
We would like to introduce ourselves as the current student leadership team for the Osler House Boat Club (OHBC): Jack Woodward (Worcester, 2017), Jessie Morgan (Keble, 2017), and Beinn Khulusi (Queen’s, 2017). Lyn Williamson, President of Oxford Medical Alumni and Professor Neil Mortenson, Senior Member in the Boat Club have been extremely helpful in encouraging us to reach out to you.
As some of you will know, the Club has a long and impressive history of success, but has been largely dormant for the best part of the last decade; we would now like to get OHBC back up and running again. We currently have over 4 boats of people keen to row with us when it is safe to do so, and expect this cohort to grow once people see a thriving Boat Club forming.
We would like to set up an OHBC alumni mailing list to keep connect via email, and hopefully in the not too distant future invite you all back on the water on an annual basis. It would also be great to hear from you about your experiences with the Club, and see old photos, to give the history of the Boat Club the recognition it deserves.
Down the road, we will be looking to do some fundraising and hopefully find a sponsorship deal. Given the lasting period of dormancy we have very outdated kit – our men’s boat is leaky, bendy and very heavy, with weakened shoulders and no modern buoyancy features. We are looking to raise funds to buy a second hand men’s boat that was built this century, and secure sponsorship to allow us to continue taking the Club further – we currently rely solely on the generosity of Osler House’s sports and SOCS budget.
If you are interested in joining the mailing list and hearing more about our plans, please register your interest by emailing us at [email protected].
We look forward to hearing from you, and hope this email jogs some wonderful memories of your time with us,
Jack, Jessie and Beinn
