Congratulations to former St Antony’s Warden and Honorary Fellow Professor Margaret MacMillan, whose Peacemakers has been named the PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize ‘Winner of Winners’.

Twenty-five years after receiving the inaugural Prize, Peacemakers was selected from all previous winners in recognition of its enduring impact and continued relevance.

The award also bookends a special St Antony’s connection: Emeritus Fellow Professor Avi Shlaim received the final annual Prize in 2024.

Congratulations to St Antony’s student Akida Anwar on receiving a series of honours recognising both her academic research and artistic practice.

Akida has been recognised for both her doctoral research and her artistic work, which intersect through the broader themes of culture and the human experience. Her most recent honours include the Emerging Scholar Award from the Aging & Social Change Research Network for her research on aging, gender and later-life relationships in urban China, as well as the inaugural St Antony’s College Allan Taylor Art & Photography Award for her oil painting entitled The Will.

One week after finishing their DPhils, they packed up a 13-year-old Honda and drove 10,000 miles towards Japan.

Dr Scarlett Ng (DPhil Sociology, 2020) and Dr Zhifeng Chen’s (DPhil International Development, 2018) extraordinary journey took them through 14 countries and into many unexpected encounters. Their story spans across varying landscapes and cultures, proving that perseverance and determination can carry you a long way.
