Last week our Garden & Landscape Design students attended the Great Garden Show at The Newt in Somerset, exploring ideas, meeting industry professionals and gaining insight into some of the UKโ€™s most exciting gardens and landscapes ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ

Students also attended a range of talks, including a talk from Andy Jasper from here at the Eden Project, sharing the story behind the iconic biomes, their design, and future ambitions. And we had the chance to explore the beautifully managed gardens and landscapes of the Newt itself!

Lovely to see our student Katie getting stuck into handsโ€‘on learning out in the community ๐ŸŒฑ

Katie is studying horticulture with us & is spending her summer gaining practical experience at Treraven Farm, supporting community veg growing & learning alongside experienced growers. A brilliant example of how study & realโ€‘world experience go hand in hand!

We love seeing our students thrive beyond the classroom ๐Ÿ’š

We've done our first dormouse check of the season with two of our MSc students - no dormice yet but it is still early! ๐Ÿ

Spring has definitely sprung, with 13 birds nests and 6 woodmice nests in the boxes. In the absence of dormice, students practiced their small mammal handling with the woodmice.

Today we're wishing the Eden Project a big happy 25th birthday! ๐ŸŽ‰

We're incredibly proud to work in partnership with the Eden Project, developing a unique set of higher education programmes which complement Eden's ethos to demonstrate and inspire positive action for the planet.

These programmes are taught within the Eden Project's unique learning environment, offering students an academic education and also practical, hands-on experience on the grounds of this globally renowned organisation. We look forward to continuing to work together to support the next generation in making the world a better place for all ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒ

Our second year Horticulture students have been preparing for their work experience this month - with some headed for Paris and Australia in a few weeks time! Here is one our students working at Kaisaniemi Botanic Gardens in Finland last year ๐Ÿƒ

Work experience like this provides a fantastic opportunity for our students to get real-world experience and prepare for future careers.

Sally, one of our Garden & Landscape Design alumna, has been named a finalist in the Student Category at the Society of Garden + Landscape Designers Awards 2026 (aka the Oscars of Garden Design) taking place tonight in London ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒฟ

Sally has been nominated for her final university project, which involved designing a garden at a fertility clinic that thoughtfully combines plants, water, and spatial layout to create a relaxing and supportive environment. Sally now works as a horticulturalist at CHAOS Farm.

This is an amazing achievement and we're wishing Sally the best of luck at the awards tonight!

Last week our Garden & Landscape Design students had their first site visit to a live project in Penzance ๐ŸŒฟ

The space will be redesigned to support outdoor learning and wellbeing, with plans for growing areas, forest school use and an amphitheatre inspired by The Minack Theatre. The group also visited the Minack itself, hearing from the head gardener about local planting, hardscaping ideas and West Cornwallโ€™s unique conditions - rain included, plus a surprise visit from a chough! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿฆ
