Cornwall Law Society and the University of Exeter Law School are delighted to welcome to Cornwall I. Stephanie Boyce, the current President of the Law Society. Stephanie will be delivering her speech "Dare to Dream" describing the obstacles she experienced before becoming the first person of colour and only the sixth woman to hold the office of President. All past, present and future legal professionals are welcome but places are limited so please secure your ticket.

The talk will take place in DM Lecture B of the Daphne Du Maurier building of Penryn campus between 4PM - 5PM, followed by a networking reception with tea, coffee and cake from 5PM - 6PM in the marquee on campus (please RSVP separately to the networking event). The HASS Penryn department has a fantastic opportunity for 2nd and 3rd Year students. We are offering paid positions, for Peer Transition Mentors to help out with planning and supporting Welcome Week induction events, beginning 19th September 2022.

We are looking for compassionate and well organised students, who have a genuine interest in improving the student experience here at the Penryn Campus. We want you to use your experience to advise and comfort our new student cohort, helping them settle into university life.

And just like that we're into our third week of term and the beginning of this year's for the first years!

As our students will know, this year's HACK theme is all about the right to protest - particularly in the context of last summer's Black Lives Matter movement.

We're also running a series of activities this week to strengthen your teamwork and communication skills to aid you in your personal and professional development. These sessions include:

- Miracle Theatre Workshops = a 2 hour ice-breaker designed to build trust and confidence, and improve your presentation and speaking skills.

- Active Plus = activities based on 'military command tasks' which require participants to work together to achieve clearly defined objectives.

- Team Working Sessions = learn what it means to work as a team through brainstorming and a range of challenges. You will look at existing team models and how different roles can impact a team's performance.

- Lego Serious Play = work through a series of Lego builds to access your creativity and put different concepts into words. Build individually and then combine your ideas to develop a shared understanding.

This year we will launch our HACK week (4th-8th October) with an annual teamwork lecture led by Pam Keenan Fritz - Chief People and Culture Officer at Rad Power Bikes in Seattle, USA.

If you're interested in gaining an insight into the working world then make sure you attend this talk where you will learn about the importance of work culture, how it is defined, and how you go about building a strong foundation in a team, company, or community organisation.

The talk is open to all of our students who are interested and we strongly encourage you to make the most of this opportunity to meet Pam - who has had a hugely successful career. For more information on this session please refer to our weekly newsletter and the ELE page for HACK.

And the day has finally arrived...

The school here in Penryn would like to wish a HUGE welcome to all our new first year LLB/BBL students! We hope you've enjoyed your summer break and that you are now ready to dive into university life with a week full of exciting activities before the hard work starts.

Just some of the things we have lined up for you this week include a hands-on workshop with the amazing Miracle Theatre, an online session to spark your creativity and self-expression, a campus treasure hunt, societies fair, and to finish the week - a glass of Prosecco or Elderflower with your fellow course mates and lecturers. How exciting!

We're looking forward to welcoming Miracle Theatre to our Penryn campus soon!
Miracle has been touring original, inventive theatre across the UK since 1979. It is one of the South West’s most distinctive voices.
In summer, Miracle pops-up in unexpected places: on beaches and cliff tops and in amphitheatres, gardens, castles. The rest of the year, its fine-tuned flexibility enables it to adapt to venues of all shapes and sizes – from village halls to grand theatres!

They will be delivering workshops for students to start the new term:

Build Your Community- This two hour workshop will bring students and staff together to get to know one another, learn new communication skills and build confidence and trust with one another. With so much learning online, this will be an effective, fun and sociable workshop to help bond new groups and combat the isolation of working remotely (delivered within the constraints of social distancing):

Tuesday 14th September 10-12 and 1-3pm
Wednesday 15th September 10-12 and 1-3pm

Finding Your Voice - This workshop will develop communication skills and confidence when speaking in groups and in public - in a friendly, supportive and fun way:

Monday 4th October 10-12 and 2-4pm
Tuesday 5th October 10-12 and 2-4pm
