Exciting job opportunity with Cornwall Council! 🌊
Application deadline: midnight, Sunday 5th July. ⏰

This role will lead on ground-breaking marine environment initiatives, supporting the recovery of nature across land, rivers, and seas, with a particular focus on our marine and coastal environments.

The role will lead on a number of high-profile and innovative projects, including:
🔵 Delivery of the Marine Nature Recovery Framework
🔵 Contribution to the Fal Rivers to Reef source-to-sea programme
🔵 A feasibility study into a potential National Marine Park (as part of a national pilot)
🔵 Supporting outcomes from the Healthy Rivers and Seas Summit
🔵 Seagrass and maerl restoration initiatives
🔵 Partnership working on the Blue Stewardship project led by Cornwall Wildlife Trust

Côte d’Ivoire has committed to creating six new Marine Protected Areas by 2030, expanding its network to seven MPAs and protecting 10% of its coastal ecosystems.

Researchers from University of Exeter are working alongside local NGO ONG Conservation des Espèces Marines to support the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition, through the Directorate for the Protection of Nature (DPN) in developing the scientific evidence underpinning the network.

The proposed network protects some of the country’s most important marine and coastal ecosystems, from turtle nesting beaches to rich biodiversity areas in the open ocean.

The Exeter Marine Summer Showcase is an exciting annual event dedicated to sharing some of the incredible marine research happening across the University of Exeter's marine network. For the first time, we're opening online viewing of the talks to the public!

Presented by the ESI and with a theme of SDG14: Life Below Water, the event covers a broad range of marine talks across disciplines. A full agenda can be found on the EventBrite page.

We're taking part in Festival for the Ocean!

Join us on Gyllyngvase Beach on Sunday 7th June for a free community celebration of Cornwall’s coast and marine environment.

Hosted by Falmouth Town Council, UK and supported by Cornwall Council’s Fal and Helford Marine Recreational Mitigation Project, the event brings together local organisations, artists, researchers and conservation groups who will be leading a series of ocean-inspired activities.

Training opportunity!🐬

The Cetacean Bycatch Evidence Evaluation Protocol (BEEP), is a tool developed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to identify features of bycatch in stranded cetaceans.

The protocol is constantly being improved, and this training day aims to further this development. You'll learn the diagnostic features of bycatch and put them to use on images of stranded cetaceans.
