Training opportunity!🐬

The Cetacean Bycatch Evidence Evaluation Protocol (BEEP), is a tool developed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to identify features of bycatch in stranded cetaceans.

The protocol is constantly being improved, and this training day aims to further this development. You'll learn the diagnostic features of bycatch and put them to use on images of stranded cetaceans.

📅 Saturday 6th June
📍 Penryn Campus, Cornwall (TR10 9FE)
⏰ 10:30am - 4pm

If you'd like to attend or need further information, please email Fin at [email protected]

Fieldwork in action! 🦪

Some of our 2nd/3rd year BSc Marine Biology students recently joined Cornwall IFCA to support management of the traditional oyster fishery in the Fal and Helford SAC.

We work closely with Cornwall IFCA for the students degrees, with boat trips, hands-on conservation, and volunteering opportunities.

This project uses resources to help buy back native European oysters from fishers, giving unsold oysters a second chance by returning them to the fishing grounds to increase density and support long-term sustainability.

This fishery in the Fal and Helford SAC is celebrated for its sustainability, and plays an important part of the local heritage. We're proud to be able to support this amazing project!

Please join us in congratulating Dr Daniel Moore for his selection as a British Science Association Award Lecturer for the British Science Festival 2026! 🏆🦈

As part of the British Science Festival in Southampton this September, Daniel will be delivering a public lecture, sharing all that we currently know about deep sea sharks.

We are looking forward to seeing how this wonderful lecture in Southampton (ft live demonstrations and interactive elements) will bring this exciting University of Exeter research to life.

Long suspected link between eastern and western Atlantic tiger sharks populations is confirmed, thanks to new research from our partners at MarAlliance.

This new research highlights not only Cabo Verde’s importance for shark conservation, but the ecological significance of these waters and broader marine ecosystem they help sustain.
