University Centre Peterborough’s results from this year’s National Student Survey (NSS) were published this week. The survey asked final-year university students questions about a range of factors related to their academic experience, including the teaching on their course, assessment and feedback, and how well courses are organised.
Overall student satisfaction at UCP is 86%, up from 80% last year in part due to UCP’s response to Covid and second-to-none support for students during the pandemic. This result also compares very favourably with the current national benchmark of 76%. and the Computing course has done exceptionally well, achieving an amazing 100%
The survey – one of the largest of its kind in the world, with almost 325,000 responses across the UK this year – shows views of teaching quality still lag behind pre-pandemic levels. However, UCP’s results buck this trend, and the Centre achieved significantly above benchmark across 10 key criteria, including:
• Courses that are intellectually stimulating (UCP 90% - national benchmark 80%)
• Opportunities to apply learning (UCP 89% - national benchmark 77%)
• Opportunities for students to work with one another (UCP 91% - national benchmark 77%)
• Opportunities to provide feedback (UCP 89% - national benchmark 80%)
• Fair marking and assessment (UCP 84% - national benchmark 72%)
• Learning community (UCP 83% - national benchmark 71%)
• Valuing student views and opinions (UCP 84% - national benchmark 71%)
• Acting on student feedback (UCP 71% - national benchmark 54%)
• Student voice (UCP 82% - national benchmark 68%)
• Student Council’s effectiveness in representing students’ academic interests (UCP 67% - national benchmark 53%)
University Centre Peterborough (UCP) was established in 2007. Its strength comes from its smaller size, which enables staff to put students at the heart of everything they do. Its portfolio of 40 courses includes business and professional, social science, creative industry, education and teaching, and science and technology programmes, including our new Software Development, Cyber Security and Networking Computer Science degrees.
