An important message from the Peterborough and District Labour Council re: OPSEU Local 358's ongoing strike action at Trent Highlands Community Living. If you're able to today, be sure to show your support for 358 by joining their picket line at 864 Chemong Rd in Peterborough, taking place tomorrow (or today, depending on when you're reading this), June 5th, 2026. (Or at 14 Lindsay St N, if you happen to be in Lindsay, ON.) From 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Check the comments on this post for further context as to what has been happening with the labour action.

Once again, mark your calendars for May 30th, 2026; there will be another province-wide protest on that day against the Ford government in response to Ford's cuts to OSAP, the end of rent control, and others. The Ontario Health Coalition encourages you to attend their Stop Ford’s Hospital Privatization Train Wreck rally, which takes place at noon in Toronto, ON on May 28th, 2026. The rally will begin at Union Station and proceed to Queen's Park for a further large protest.

The Peterborough and District Labour Council will be hosting their annual Day of Mourning service on Tuesday, April 28th, at 10:45 am. Location: adjacent to the flagpole on the front lawn at City Hall, 500 George St N.

The service will shine a light on psychological health and safety in our workplaces. As per the council, the ceremony will include the City’s proclamation recognizing April 28 as the National Day of Mourning and Ken Walsh, Training Services Representative for the Workers Health & Safety Centre, will be the guest speaker. There will also be a lunch at the Black Horse Pub (452 George St N) following the service.
