A huge well done to Ayva, our Level 2 Hairdressing student, for winning the Lee Stafford Pink Scissor Award.

Out of all Lee Stafford Education academies, only one student is chosen and this year it was Ayva!

Weโ€™re incredibly proud of Joinery lecturer Steven Parish and the team for delivering an inspiring community project with Bearpark Primary School.

Working closely with Bearpark throughout the planning process, the team designed, crafted and installed new outdoor play spaces based entirely on the childrenโ€™s ideas. They crafted mud kitchens, benches, bird boxes and planters, which transformed the schoolโ€™s forest area into a vibrant learning space.

Throughout the installation day, Stephen and the team involved every pupil from Nursery to Year 6, giving children learning experience with tools, materials and construction processes while building interest in future careers in woodwork and construction!

Well done to everybody involved and to Stephen for leading the project!

Heleana was the first Painting & Decorating apprentice recruited through the Developing Futures Programme, joining Paul Bertram Painting & Decorating to begin her career journey in the trade!

Through the programme, she accessed a supported route into industryโ€‘led learning, handsโ€‘on experience and a pathway into a skilled profession. Heleana is a perfect example of the talent and commitment the Developing Futures Programme aims to support.

Progress continues at Houghall Campus!

Work is continuing at pace on the redevelopment of East Durham Collegeโ€™s Houghall Campus, with new learning spaces beginning to take shape.

The new facilities will support the regionโ€™s growing demand for green and rural skills, creating modern, industry-standard spaces for learning in agriculture, animal management and science, floristry, and environmental management.

This investment will help more students develop the skills needed for the North Eastโ€™s future workforce, while strengthening Houghallโ€™s role in sustainability, innovation and land-based education across the region.

We made it to Chelsea!

After months of preparation and excitement, we are incredibly proud to see our Floristry students from our Houghall Campus representing EDC at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, one of the most renowned Horticultural events, this week!

Since March, our journey has captured attention across the region, with BBC's Jonathon Swingler covering the team's progress and an exciting visit from Florist Simon Lycett.

The display - Floral Tropism, which is based on a laboratory of flowers, each representing a tropism, centred with a vortex with the sun at the top, has captured the attention of some famous faces at the show, including Brian May, Timothy Spall and David Beckham!
