EDC 4 – 5 Hartlepool FE

EDC Men’s suffered a narrow 5–4 defeat at home to Hartlepool FE in an entertaining contest.

EDC made an excellent start and found themselves 2–0 up inside the opening 15 minutes. Logan Winter opened the scoring with a good finish from a corner before excellent high pressing forced an error, allowing Thomas Mole to double the lead. It was comfortably EDC’s best start to a game all season.

However, despite creating further chances in the first half, EDC were unable to extend their advantage and Hartlepool grew back into the game. A combination of good attacking play from the visitors and a drop in intensity from EDC saw Hartlepool score four unanswered goals to turn the game around and lead 4–2.

The introduction of substitutes gave EDC fresh energy. Travis Elsy pulled a goal back from the right-hand side before Abid Hasan produced a composed finish inside the box to level the game at 4–4. At that stage, EDC looked the more likely side to go on and win it, but Hartlepool eventually found the decisive goal following a goalmouth scramble.

Despite the result, EDC can take pride from recent performances as the season approaches its conclusion, with plenty of positives to build on moving forward.

Goals came from Logan Winter, Thomas Mole, Travis Elsy, and Abid Hasan.

⭐ Player of the Match: Oliver Waller, playing out of position at centre-back alongside captain Logan Winter, Oliver organised the team superbly, was vocal throughout, and delivered another strong performance following recent improvements.

New College Durham 2-6 EDC

In a well contested game played in all sorts of weather conditions, EDC Men battled to a deserved 6-2 away victory against New College Durham.

EDC found things difficult early on and gave possession away too easily at times, but still managed to take the lead through a well-taken finish from Ian Spencer after a good pass from Joey Reed.

The lead was then doubled thanks to a fantastic strike from Dylan Harland from outside the box. However, EDC were punished shortly after through a combination of slack defending and quick, incisive play from New College Durham, with a quick-fire double bringing the scores level at 2-2 going into half-time.

EDC responded strongly after the break and regained the lead through Dylan Harland once again. Ian Spencer then dropped into a deeper midfield role and really flourished, helping EDC take control of the game.

From there, it became the Thomas Mole show, as he produced a clinical hat-trick to put the game beyond doubt. Oliver Waller also contributed with a great assist during the second-half performance.

Jay Wood was excellent in goal throughout, particularly with his distribution and composure under pressure.

⭐ Player of the Match: Ian Spencer, alongside his goal, Ian delivered a tremendous performance in an unfamiliar midfield role. His energy, work rate, and quality on the ball were particularly pleasing.

A special mention also goes to Thomas Mole for his excellent finishing and attacking display in front of goal. 👏⚽

Match Report | EDC Inclusion 9-10 Tyne Met College

The EDC Inclusion team played out a thrilling and entertaining fixture against Tyne Met College in glorious sunshine on the grass pitches at EDC. Both sets of players deserve huge credit for their attitude, effort, and commitment throughout a game full of quality and goals.

Tyne Met started brightly and took an early 1-0 lead, but Dylan Creamer quickly brought EDC level. Strong attacking play from Tyne Met then saw them race into a 4-1 advantage, leaving EDC with a mountain to climb.

To their credit, EDC responded brilliantly. Goals from Harry Forster, Dylan Creamer again, Ronan Cassidy, and Kyle Smith turned the game around completely as EDC battled back to take a 5-4 lead.

The momentum continued to swing, however, and Tyne Met regained control to move 6-5 ahead before Jessie Bresnen scored the first of his hat-trick goals to level the game at 6-6 just before half-time.

The second half was played at a relentless pace, with chances at both ends. EDC again edged themselves in front through a composed finish from Taylor Clark before Jessie Bresnen added another to make it 8-6.

Credit must go to Tyne Met, particularly their dangerous number 9, who caused problems throughout the game. Tyne Met responded strongly, scoring three unanswered goals to move into a 9-8 lead.

EDC refused to give up and were rewarded when Jessie Bresnen completed his hat-trick to make it 9-9 in another dramatic twist. With the game capable of going either way, it was Tyne Met who ultimately took their final chance to secure a 10-9 victory in a breathless contest.

Both teams can take massive pride from a fantastic game played in the right spirit from start to finish.

⭐ Player of the Match: Jessie Bresnen, a captain’s performance out wide, scoring a hat-trick and producing an outstanding all-round display.

Middlesbrough College 3-3 EDC (Middlesbrough won 4-2 on penalties)

EDC Men bowed out of the League Cup after an entertaining and hard-fought quarter-final away at Middlesbrough College, eventually losing 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic 3-3 draw in normal time.

Middlesbrough started the game strongly and took an early lead, but EDC gradually grew into the game and began to show real quality. A brilliant ball from Dylan Harland found Caden King, who produced a composed finish over the goalkeeper to bring EDC level at 1-1.

However, some sloppy defending from a set piece allowed Middlesbrough to regain the lead before half-time. A flicked header at the near post caught EDC switching off, allowing a simple finish to make it 2-1 at the break.

After some honest words and tough love at half-time, EDC came out for the second half with real intensity and produced some of the best football the side has played all season.

Ian Spencer won a penalty after being brought down by the Middlesbrough goalkeeper and showed great composure to pick himself up and convert the spot-kick to make it 2-2.

Middlesbrough remained dangerous on the counter-attack throughout and eventually restored their lead late on with a well-taken breakaway goal to go 3-2 ahead.

To their credit, EDC refused to give in. A tactical reshuffle and changes in personnel helped swing momentum again, and a fantastic team move down the left-hand side ended with Travis Elsie calmly side-footing home the equaliser to make it 3-3.

Both sides had opportunities to win the game in normal time, but the tie eventually went to penalties. Despite winning the toss and taking the first penalty, EDC were unable to take advantage, missing their opening two spot-kicks as Middlesbrough progressed with a 4-2 shootout victory.

Despite the disappointment of the result, the character, resilience, and quality shown particularly in the second half, gave plenty of positives to take forward.

⭐ Player of the Match: A special mention goes to Will Lowes, who stepped in as goalkeeper and produced a number of outstanding saves to keep EDC in the game throughout. Outstanding attitude and commitment to the EDC football academy.

King James I Academy 2 – 7 EDC

EDC Men’s recorded a convincing 7–2 win away to King James I Academy in a friendly played in hot, sunny conditions on a dry pitch.

The game turned around the 24th minute when Abid Hasan was introduced and made an immediate impact, scoring with his first touch to give EDC the lead. King James responded well to equalise, but EDC regained control before half-time when Ethan Longstaff struck brilliantly from outside the area to make it 2–1 at the break.

It remained a competitive contest for large periods, but as the game wore on, King James began to tire and EDC’s superior quality and decision-making proved decisive.

Abid Hasan was the standout performer, completing his hat-trick in the second half. His second came from a well-worked move down the right, while his third was calmly converted from the penalty spot after Joey Reed was brought down in the box.

Further goals came from Thomas Mole (2) and another from Ethan Longstaff, with Longstaff also impressing with a strong midfield display.

With it being a friendly, there was plenty of rotation, allowing players valuable minutes, and credit goes to the whole squad for their contribution.

⭐ Player of the Match: Abid Hasan, a clinical hat-trick and excellent work rate capped an outstanding performance.
