Celebrating our outstanding GCSE results, ranking Ivybridge Community College amongst the very best schools in the South West.

Following the publication of this year's provisional Department for Education performance tables, we are delighted to celebrate another exceptional set of GCSE outcomes for the Class of 2026, cementing a reputation as one of the highest-performing comprehensive schools in the South West of England.

The latest figures place Ivybridge Community College amongst the leading non-selective secondary schools across Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth and Torbay, with particularly impressive outcomes in English and mathematics and achievement across the wider curriculum.

Our headline results include:

⭐54.6 Attainment 8 score, equivalent to an average grade of 5.46 across the subjects included in this measure

⭐ 82.9% of students achieved grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics

⭐ 66.1% of students achieved grade 5 or above in both English and Mathematics

⭐ 23.1% of students achieved the highest grades of 7 or above in both English and Mathematics

These results place Ivybridge Community College at the forefront of academic performance among non-selective schools in the region, demonstrating the College's commitment to securing exceptional outcomes for young people of all abilities and backgrounds.

‘They showed tremendous heart’

Our Senior Rugby Squad have been back in action this week.
After a highly competitive National Cup fixture against Millfield School, we hosted Wellington School for an extremely close match. Whilst the result did not go as the team had hoped, we were so impressed by the boys’ incredible commitment in the challenging game.

Mr Botha, Head of Rugby said,
“They showed tremendous heart against a physical Wellington side. I’m really proud of their effort on our home ground and in front of our supporters".

Reaching and competing at this national level is a fantastic achievement that highlights the hard work, dedication and high standards of our senior players.
Well done to everyone involved for representing the school with pride.

We are delighted to share that Ivybridge Community College has been successfully nominated for the Character Education Quality Mark Plus.
This significant achievement recognises how our values of Respect, Aspiration, Integrity and Compassion are brought to life each day through the actions, relationships and opportunities that shape College life.

Principal, Rachel Hutchinson said
“The Character Education Quality Mark Plus reflects the collective commitment of our students, staff, parents, governors and trustees to creating a culture in which character, belonging, aspiration and personal development enable our young people and wider community to flourish.
Our sincere thanks go to everyone who has contributed, with special recognition to Charlotte Hanton and Nichola Offer, whose energy, dedication and passion for Character Education have been instrumental throughout this journey.”

Gary Lewis, Lead Assessor, Association for Character Education (pictured here with our Principal and Chair of WeST Community Council), shared as part of his report;
"The character culture of the school has been very effectively nurtured by the “my sentence” initiative which ensures both students and staff constantly reflect on their aspirations and life goals. Students were able to articulate with considerable maturity how they were managing their own personal development and life dreams with a clear focus on personal responsibility and independence. The Quality Mark process both celebrates the strength of our current provision and supports its continued development as we work towards becoming a Character Education Hub for the South West, sharing effective practice and supporting schools and practitioners across the region.

Our GCSE Hospitality and Catering students have been putting their skills to the test with amazing results!

Year 10 made ravioli, filled with ingredients of their choice, drizzled with their sauce preference and then plated with style!

Year 11 are in full swing with their skills' challenge, before they begin preparing for their controlled assessment.
Creating roulades challenged our students with the need for speed and then allowing significant cooling time before adding the filling. The outcomes were delicious!
For their controlled assessment they must create 2 dishes within a 3.5 hour period, adding all the trimmings and finishing touches.

We love welcoming authors to Ivybridge Community College!
This academic year we have already welcomed local author and professional cartographer A.D. Downton to the LRC with Beth O'Brien, Carnegie Medal Winner for Writing 2026, visiting today!

A.D. Downton led two workshops with students in Years 7, 8 and 9, helping them to create their own fantasy maps inspired by the local area and the great maps of Middle Earth.
The students created these by drawing around chess pieces to create unique islands and coasts, as well as a few sea monsters!
This visit marked the launch of our new annual reading challenge, Book Odyssey!

There are lots of clubs and activities taking place in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). These can be found in our Enrichment Programme book which was emailed or alternatively can be found on the Extra Curricular Opportunites page of our website.

Here are some of our Year 10 and 11 students enjoying the ‘Launch Pad Live’ careers event which took place last week at the Plymouth Life Centre.

Our students were able to engage with a range of employers and training providers and able to explore career options in a variety of sectors including defence, marine, engineering, health and care, construction, tourism and hospitality and retail.

Launch Pad Live is the biggest careers fair of its kind in the region! This was a great opportunity for our Key Stage 4 students who really made the most of their time at the event!
