University of Plymouth Robot Football

University of Plymouth Robot Football Our robots are being developed by students and staff at Plymouth University. We use them for teaching, research and competition

We design and build humanoid robots at the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems. We use them for teaching, for research and for internal robotics competitions. We also devote a lot of time to outreach to engage the next generation of engineers into the field. We thank our sponsors (i) Plymouth University, (ii) Silicon Sensors Ltd, (iii) Magnetic Shields Ltd, and (iv) Robotis

Hi All, Just to let you know that we are adding some new computer vision to our Scott robot. The attached video shows the first stage of optical flow field tracking of a moving target, against a background. You will see the background moves as we simulate the walking action of Scott. The target is still highlighted in the centre foreground, although other similar movements are highlighted in red also. This is the beginnings of making our robot have an attentional system.

Hey everyone, sorry to have been quiet recently. here is a report of progress:

We now have converted Scott (our teen-size robot) to ROS, and updated the dynamixel interface to the servos. We are in the process of adding a GPU to the vision processing stream. Then we will be able to test Scott's walking and basic vision capabilities.

Hurrah! We have a new head for Scott, our teen/adult robot footballer. See the attached drawings and photos. Much testing and integration is now required, before we can even try and use the new design to play football. But progress is exciting. Looking forward to trying it all out! Phil

Progress!! After a laboratory re-organisation we are making progress with a new head design for Scott. We have taken some time to engineer the new Plymouth OWL robot. It has two steerable eyes. We are in the process of adapting Scott to take the OWL eyes. They servos are fast (about half the speed of human eyes) and we should be able to track a moving ball. Check out the videos of students working on the OWL this last semester. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bduEr32dk4g and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBRrzwK_Kjg&feature=youtu.be

Look out for the new head design coming soon!!
