Whether you’re navigating assignments, job applications, or career decisions, taking care of your wellbeing makes everything else more sustainable.

It’s okay to ask for help – from friends, tutors, or support services. You don’t have to do it all alone.

Looking for a job? Watch out for job scams.

Unfortunately, fake job adverts and recruitment messages can look very convincing, so it’s important to know what to look out for when applying for work.

Some warning signs include:

⚠️ Being offered a job without an interview or proper recruitment process
⚠️ Being asked to pay money upfront for training, equipment or checks
⚠️ Being asked for bank details or personal information very early in the process
⚠️ Job adverts promising unusually high pay for very little work
⚠️ Recruiters contacting you from personal or unusual email addresses
⚠️ Being pressured to make a quick decision or respond immediately
⚠️ Being asked to receive, transfer or send money on behalf of a company

Before applying, take a few minutes to check the company is genuine. Look at their official website, check the contact details and search for the vacancy directly on their careers page where possible.

Remember: if something about a job opportunity doesn’t feel right, it’s always worth checking before sharing any personal information.

Looking for a part-time job but not sure where to start?

There are lots of different ways to search, so try not to rely on just one website.

Start with our Student Jobs webpage for information about finding on-campus and off-campus work, and keep checking myCareer for local and University-based vacancies. When searching myCareer, remember to filter by part-time jobs and sort by Ending Soonest.

You can also keep an eye on UPSU Jobs, check individual employer careers pages directly, and use the LinkedIn Alumni Tool for inspiration.

As part of Part-Time Jobs & Work Experience Week, you can also come along to our two-day fair in the Rolle Marquee on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October, where organisations will be promoting part-time roles, internships and work experience opportunities.

And if you are interested in becoming a Student Ambassador, applications open from 6 October via myCareer.

• Local job boards like Indeed, Reed, and Totaljobs
• Local cafés, shops, and hospitality venues – check their windows or websites
• Recruitment agencies specialising in temporary or seasonal work
• University departments – keep an eye out for student ambassador roles (Open from 6th October) and campus jobs
• Social media and networking

Some of the UK’s biggest graduate programmes are expected to open for applications in November and December 2026, including opportunities with the Civil Service, NHS, Rolls-Royce, JPMorganChase, BAE Systems, NatWest and PwC.

If you’re graduating in 2027, now is a good time to start preparing rather than waiting until applications open.

You could use the next few weeks to:

- Update your CV
- Research employers and different graduate pathways
- Think about examples you could use in competency-based applications
- Practise online tests and interview questions
- Make a note of application opening dates and deadlines

Remember, graduate schemes cover far more than just one type of role, with opportunities across engineering, technology, finance, business, healthcare, project management, consulting and more.

The Careers Service can support you with your CV, applications, interviews and planning your graduate job search.

Keep an eye on employer careers pages as opening dates can change, and some programmes may open or close earlier than expected.

Take a look at the upcoming Health and Social Care Showcase, run by Caring Plymouth. The event will bring together a wide range of employers from across the sector, with many part-time and flexible opportunities being promoted on the day.
