Huge congratulations to our Level 3 Art and Design student Cleo Anderson, who has won an arts competition with Falmouth University for her fabulous textiles piece!

The winning entries are currently being exhibited at the Falmouth campus until 30 May, before joining a larger exhibition and online showcase featuring all entries in June.

Cleo achieved first prize and won £250 worth of art supplies. She also attended the University's Open Day last weekend and got the chance to see her work on display and meet artists Duncan Cameron and Gina Burney.

Well done, Cleo - an amazing achievement and very well deserved!

On Wednesday 20 May students from our Pathways for Progression programme were invited to Buckingham Palace in London to celebrate achieving their The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) Gold Award at a tea party in the Palace Gardens. It was an extra special celebration as this year marks the 70th Anniversary of the DofE Award, and DofE Leaders from around the country were also invited to join in the celebrations, including our own programme manager for personal development and outdoor learning: Mike Dugdale.

Students in attendance at the Palace included current Pathways for Progression students Mackenzie Rose and Krystal Read, as well as three students who have since finished their time with Pathways: Oli Kohler, Amy Leaves and Poppy Drake. They were joined by family members at the event.

The students, their families and Mike all had a great time, enjoying music performed by the British Army Band and the Royal Air Force Band, and listening to guest speakers including television personality Sam Thompson and Choirmaster Gareth Malone. As you would expect at a Royal Garden Party, there was tea and cake provided - and even a little bit of rain couldn't dampen everyone's spirits as the near 6,000 people in the Palace listened to Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, speak from the West Terrace. The Duke then walked through the garden, greeting the young people and their families.

Well done to everyone who attended the celebration - what a fantastic experience!

Tom Malone Jr is doing brilliant work raising awareness about autism. Since receiving his diagnosis, he’s become a proud voice for the autism community, championing access to the arts for all.

His episode of Skilfully Speaking is a really inspirational listen. Tom speaks honestly about growing up feeling “different” and how his diagnosis helped him better understand himself. His openness is helping challenge stereotypes and create greater understanding around neurodiversity.

On Wednesday at City College Plymouth, we proudly celebrated the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development - a day early, because of the GCSEs taking place on campus this week!

Our sports hall came alive with culture, community and connection as students and staff came together to celebrate the rich diversity that makes our College so special. From traditional dress, music and dance to henna art, face painting and delicious food from around the world, the day was a vibrant showcase of heritage and belonging.

With over 30 countries and regions represented, the event highlighted the power of intercultural dialogue and the importance of creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

A special thank you to our ESOL students, staff, performers and everyone involved in making the celebration such a memorable success. From Ukrainian folk music and Indonesian dance to a flash mob finale, the energy and pride across campus was incredible!

At City College Plymouth, we believe diversity strengthens and enriches learning for all, and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate our wonderfully varied community from all over the globe.
