🍂 Happy half term to everyone breaking up today!

Wishing our trainees, mentors and school colleagues a restful and well-deserved break when it comes. Thank you for all your hard work and support this half term.

Most of the Portsmouth SCITT team will be out of the office over the next two weeks, but if you’re considering applying to our primary or secondary teacher training courses, please do get in touch. We’ll prioritise responses to prospective applicants, although replies may take a little longer than usual.

Enjoy the break! 🍁

🌟 Interview season is here!

Our primary interviews have started at Shape Futures SCITT, and secondary interviews are being scheduled too. Such an exciting time of year as we meet potential future teachers!

This morning, primary candidate ‘L’ led a lovely creative activity with a small group of children, giving them opportunities to use their imaginations, share ideas and practise their conversation skills.

We love seeing candidates bring their own strengths and interests to these activities. There is so much to gain from creative tasks beyond traditional academic subjects, and the children really engage when that enthusiasm shines through.

Their verdict today? ‘L’ would make a great teacher because she was “calm and creative”! 💛

Can you guess each animal?

Thinking about training to teach, or know someone who is? Look for Shape Futures SCITT when applying for September 2027.

As previously shared, Portsmouth SCITT is becoming Shape Futures SCITT! Our website and social media will gradually change over the coming weeks, but our new name is already appearing on Find teacher training and will appear on Apply when applications open tomorrow.

It’s still us! The same team, personal support and commitment to training great teachers, now under a new name.

Explore our courses by clicking on the links in the comments.

Please share with anyone considering a future in teaching.

Different shapes. Brighter futures. Together.

Why Shape Futures SCITT?

Our new name has been chosen very deliberately.

It aligns closely with one of our Trust’s core messages: Shape Futures. For us, that phrase captures exactly what teacher training is about.

Our trainees are shaping their own futures as they enter the profession.

Our mentors, schools, link tutors, expert colleagues and wider partners all help to shape the teachers they become.

Those teachers, in turn, will help to shape the experiences, opportunities and futures of the children they teach.

And those children are all different too.

Different people. Different experiences. Different strengths. Different starting points. Different ambitions.

That idea of difference, individuality and belonging is also beginning to influence the visual identity we are developing for Shape Futures SCITT.

You may have noticed that we have not revealed our new logo just yet.

That is coming soon.

When we do, we will share more about the thinking behind the shapes, colours and design, and how they represent the many different people who make up our teacher training community.

Different shapes. Brighter futures. Together.

Introducing…

SHAPE FUTURES SCITT

A new name.
The same commitment to developing exceptional teachers.

Our new identity reflects something we believe deeply: there is no single shape of a great teacher.

People come into teaching with different experiences, backgrounds, strengths, perspectives and ambitions.

And together, they shape brighter futures for children.

DIFFERENT SHAPES. BRIGHTER FUTURES. TOGETHER.

This new identity has been created with a great deal of thought about who we are, what we value and where we are heading next.

Come back tomorrow, when we’ll share more about the thinking behind our new name, and what Shape Futures SCITT means to us.

In August 2025, we lost one of the most skilled and resilient teachers we have had the pleasure of knowing and training.
The Teenage Cancer Trust provided great support to Ellie and meant a lot to both her and her family.

In her memory, Tom (who trained with Ellie and now teaches at Langstone Primary Academy) will be running the Great South Run to raise money for this incredible charity.

If you would like to donate, please use this link. Every £5 donation earns a song suggestion for Tom during his run.

Tom, we're proud of you and Ellie, you're always remembered. 💜

I have been inspired to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust in honour of one of the most incredible women I have ever known. I only met Ellie a couple of years ago when we began our primary teaching

Our current trainees will be the last cohort training under the name, 'Portsmouth SCITT', as our name change announcement is coming next week!

Nothing will change about our high-quality course, our skilled team or the bespoke training we provide, but if you're applying to join us in September 2027, you will be looking for our new name!

A small clue in advance... 🟨🔺️🟢🔷️

04/09/2026

Our new trainee teachers have completed their first week in our two training hubs and what a fantastic cohort we have!
They have already shown high levels of enthusiasm, professionalism and collaboration, and we can't wait to see them develop throughout this year!

31/08/2026

It's that time of year again and we can't wait to welcome in our new trainees from tomorrow.
We are also thinking about our ECTs who will be getting ready to welcome new classes and start this new term as class teachers.

We're looking forward to another busy and exciting year at Portsmouth SCITT which will include a name change for us! Keep your eyes peeled for announcements very soon.

Happy New Term everyone! 👨‍🎓👩‍🎓✏️📚

Today marks the last day with our current cohort of trainees and it has been a pleasure to work with every one of these new teachers.

We always say it's a privilege to be able to train the next generation of teachers and we can't wait to hear how everyone gets on as they move into their new roles in September.

Good luck everyone and remember to keep in touch! 🎓🤩
