Last week, we were lucky enough to host not only one, but two reunions! 🥳

On Saturday, we celebrated 50 years since the lovely French Studies graduates started their degree. We reconnected, reminisced and celebrated everyone being back together in the place where it all began.

Last Friday, the UK's first medicine degree opened at the University of Portsmouth.

The 54 students are the first in the UK to study medicine in the branch of an established medicine school, in this case, using funded places from King's College London.

Congratulations to Civil Engineering graduate, Alex Dodd who has been awarded 'Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer 2024' at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Southern Annual Awards ceremony.

After graduating in 2020, Alex joined Barhale in 2021 on a graduate development programme. He has since been promoted and taken part in a variety of projects.

Dr Kay Linnell recently celebrated the completion of her PhD and met with us to discuss her time in Portsmouth and a fascinating career, including her support for sub-postmasters in the Post Office scandal, which was dramatised in the ITV hit series "Mr Bates vs The Post Office.”

In addition to her PhD, Kay has lectured in MSc Forensic Accounting at the University and has had an illustrious career, including her role as Chief Investigating and Prosecuting Accountant for the Board of Inland Revenue.

Graduate Kay discusses her highlights in Portsmouth, her involvement in high-profile fraud cases, and her work with The Justice for Sub-postmasters Alliance (JFSA).

Last weekend, 18 graduates returned to Portsmouth for a 30-year Mathematics reunion 🤩

The group celebrated at The Beach Club on Friday and then met for lunch the following day at Spice Island - the same place they had their graduation meal 30 years ago! They were also joined by Dr Elliott who retired last year after a whopping 48 years in the department.

🚣‍♀️ Oar you ready for an epic race? 🚣‍♂️

This we're counting down to the launch of GB Row Challenge 2024.

Tomorrow two intrepid teams, Sea Change Row and Coastal Odyssey, set off in a gruelling race to row around the coast of Great Britain. They'll collect samples along the way which will then be analysed by UoP researchers creating a unique, comprehensive picture of ocean pollution levels around the UK.

By accurately and regularly monitoring the health of our oceans we can develop solutions to protect them and the species that live there.
