🎓 A very warm hello to our new postgraduate researchers.

Over the past week we have welcomed over 150 new PGRs to the University of Portsmouth.

It was lovely to see 65 new faces to our two-day, in-person induction, as well as over 50 attendees at our separate online induction. The online event provided an opportunity for those unable to attend in person, or studying at a distance, to connect with our research community and get started on their PGR journey.

Our new researchers bring with them a fascinating range of research topics, from working with barbers and hairdressers to tackle high skin cancer rates in our city, to measuring the social value of football clubs.

We’re excited to support them throughout their studies and wish them all the very best as they embark on this next chapter.

A huge thank you to all our new PGRs who joined us for our October 2026 induction! Day two was just as fantastic as day one, with contributions from our wellbeing team, Phil from , and a panel of six current and recently graduated PGRs who shared their experiences and insights. Thank you to everyone who helped make the induction such a success!

Thank you to everyone who came to our first ever RegFest yesterday! We registered over 40 postgraduate research students and welcomed our new PGRs to the University of Portsmouth. We’re looking forward to seeing many of them again at our PGR inductions next month.

We're delighted to share that we've been ranked 4th in the UK for postgraduate research student satisfaction in the 2026 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey!

This fantastic result reflects the commitment of colleagues across the University of Portsmouth who support our postgraduate researchers and deliver an outstanding doctoral experience. We had a fantastic second and final day of our postgraduate researcher induction. A day focused on supporting PGR wellbeing, mental health and inclusion, while equipping them with practical development tips, resources and peer insights to help them plan for a successful research journey.
