Thank you to for organising another wonderful talk from Paul with his guide dog York at Hawkshead yesterday. York even paid a trip to his previous master's bench in the Buttery garden afterwards. Please read Leo's message about his experience volunteering for below and look out for future talks with Paul and York at Camden 💛

I started volunteering with Guide Dogs UK in early 2024 during my first year at the RVC. I’d previously had some exposure through family; my sister-in-law had a breeding guide dog for GDB in Marin County, California (my hometown and their headquarters), and after watching the Netflix documentary Pick of the Litter, I became really interested in the incredible impact guide dogs can have on the lives of people with vision loss.

For anyone interested, there are lots of ways to get involved depending on the time you can commit. Fundraising and event-day assistance are easy ways to start and fit well around student life, and I would be happy to connect those interested with the London/Hertfordshire organizers if they message me on Teams. Puppy raising is also an option (although a significant commitment for vet students), and Guide Dogs UK has also sponsored people taking part in marathons and charity challenges in the past. Most importantly, I’d love to help raise awareness of the work Guide Dogs does and encourage more people to learn about the many ways they can support an organisation that has such a profound impact on people’s independence and quality of life.

Tomorrow, Upper Lecture Theatre, Hawkshead

Join us for an inspiring talk by Paul who will share his experiences with Guide Dogs UK, highlighting the profound impact guide dogs have had on his independence, mobility, and daily life.

Paul will be bringing his guide dog York, who was fostered as a puppy by the RVC Students' Union's late General Manager Dave Sherlock-Jones.

This event is open to students and staff interested in accessibility, disability awareness, and the human-animal bond.

This talk was organised by current student Leo Le Merle

A huge thank you to everyone who played, supported, volunteered and helped make this year’s Varsity such a brilliant day of sport and campus atmosphere 🔥

After a full day of competition, it was Hawkshead who came out on top as the overall Varsity winners 🏆
