🎓 On May 21, the UCLan Confucius Institute successfully organized the YCT Level 1 exam for 89 pupils from two local primary schools in Preston and Chorley.

These students—30 from English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School and 59 from St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary School—have been learning Chinese for just half a year under our teachers’ guidance. Despite being beginners, they showed remarkable enthusiasm and progress!

The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is an international standardized test designed for young non-native speakers. This milestone exam reflected not only the students’ solid language foundation, but also their growing passion for Chinese learning. 📚🇨🇳

We’re proud to support bilingual education and will continue fostering cultural exchange between China and the UK through quality language programs and community engagement.

From May 15–17, the UCLan Confucius Institute proudly took part in the 2025 Lancashire Science Festival at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre in Preston.

With the theme “Great Inventions and Discoveries of Ancient China,” our booth focused on the mortise and tenon joint—a brilliant carpentry technique used in traditional Chinese wooden architecture that connects wood without nails or glue.

Visitors explored interactive models, including famous examples like the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. Many families and school groups joined in hands-on puzzle challenges, experiencing ancient craftsmanship through play and learning.

The activity sparked curiosity and appreciation for the scientific wisdom of Chinese culture—bridging East and West through fun and discovery! 🇨🇳🤝🇬🇧

🌏🎉 Celebrating United Nations Chinese Language Day 2025! 🎉🌏

To mark the 2025 United Nations Chinese Language Day on April 20, the Confucius Institute at the University of Central Lancashire, in collaboration with Beijing International Studies University, hosted a vibrant series of cultural activities that brought the beauty of the Chinese language and culture to life!

📖 Poetry Recital: Youthful China – A Trilogy

One of the highlights was the Youth Poetry Recital, themed “Youthful China – A Trilogy”, unfolding in three chapters: “The Call of Dreams,” “The Journey Together,” and “The Light of the Future.” Students and staff from the Confucius Institute recited heartfelt verses across the campus, using their youthful voices to tell Chinese stories and express their hopes for the future. It was a powerful tribute to the spirit of Chinese Language Day.

🎶 Choral Harmony: East Meets West

Another memorable moment came from a moving performance by the Preston People’s Choir, who were specially invited to join the celebrations. Guided by Confucius Institute teachers, 23 senior members of the choir performed “Quiet Night Thoughts” by the great Chinese poet Li Bai, singing in both Chinese and English. Their sincere, resonant voices beautifully conveyed the poem’s essence and showcased the lyrical charm of the Chinese language.

📚 Immersive Learning: Culture in the Classroom

In classrooms across campus, teachers introduced the history and meaning of Chinese Language Day. Students joined in singing Chinese songs and watching celebration videos, experiencing the joy and depth of Chinese language and culture in a relaxed, interactive setting.

This celebration was more than a showcase of language—it was a true cultural exchange, strengthening bonds between China and the UK. The Confucius Institute remains committed to promoting Chinese language education and fostering mutual understanding between East and West.
