Welcome to the official University of Lancashire's Medicine & Dentistry page.

Follow for all the latest on medicine, foundation, medical sciences, dentistry, audiology, and optometry courses. The aims of this programme are to deliver a graduate who is able to take on the roles and responsibilities of a medical doctor entering a foundation postgraduate training programme (or equivalent internationally) and underpinned by the requirements laid out by the General Medical Council. Apply biomedical scientific principles, method and knowledge to their medical practice. Carry out consultations with patients using appropriate communication and examination skills and use their findings to diagnose problems and formulate management plans. Demonstrate competence in a range of professional skills necessary for patient care, working with others in an ethical manner and putting patient safety at the core of their work. Use reflective practice to inform continuing professional development and enhanced competencies and to continually maintain their skills as a doctor. Demonstrate and apply the principles of quality of care and legal and ethical principles and regulations as described by the Care Quality Commission, General Medical Council, Royal Medical Colleges and World Health Organisation guidance. A lovely visit to Bowgreave Rise Home for the Elderly yesterday with three of our MBBS students and academics Helen Rainford and Holly Henderson as part of our Person Before the Patient placement initiative 💙

Delivered in partnership with Lancashire County Council, the initiative helps students develop empathy, communication skills and a deeper understanding of the people behind every patient.

From meeting a resident aged over 100 to hearing about another's love of dancing, our students gained valuable insights into the lives, experiences and stories that remind us there is always a person behind every patient.

We were also delighted to present Jill Maun, Manager of Bowgreave Rise, with an Inspirational Placement Education Champion certificate in recognition of her fantastic support for our students on placement. 👏

A fantastic milestone for our School of Medicine and Dentistry! 🎉

We brought together our students and academics to celebrate 10 years of excellence in medical education with the official opening of our expanded Clinical Skills Lab. 💙 🩺

With capacity increasing from 21 to 40 bed spaces, the refurbished facility represents an exciting investment in our students’ learning experience and the future of medical education at the University of Lancashire.

The celebrations included a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Dean Professor Alison Carr, followed by a tour of the facilities.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this expansion happen and helping us reach this exciting milestone! 👏 💙
