SHOUTING OUT LOUD PRESTON 2025
We are very excited to share the reconstruction of Shouting Out Loud by Gaby Agis on September 25th in the Media Factory, ME020. Relaxed Sharing at 3pm, Performance at 6.30pm. Free of charge.

'The 1980s were a period of great social and political unrest. Thatcherism was in full swing. The miners' strikes and gay pride, anti- racist and feminist movements dominated the landscape. This provided the context and backdrop to artists' lives. Again, we live in turbulent and uncertain times. By reconstructing Shouting Out Loud, I am interested in discovering to what degree art reflects the times that we live in.' - Gaby Agis,2025

Shouting Out Loud is being performed in Preston to celebrate the long history of dance at The University of Lancashire, honouring the faculty, the students and the extended dance community of the North West.

BODIES IN FLIGHT make performance where flesh utters and words move, that challenges and re-energizes the conventional relationship between audiences and performers, and audiences and place. They insist on the buzz of ideas, on philosophy and poetry, using words and images, movement and stillness, voices and bodies, in order to move audiences emotionally and intellectually.

Here Bodies in Flight return to the Department where Sara Giddens was Professor of Choreographic Practice to mark the publication of their book Flesh and Text that celebrates over 30 years of making performance.

Join us for the launch of Flesh and Text edited by Simon Jones and Sara Giddens.

Next up, meet Matilda!

My name is Matilda Richards and I’m from Lincoln in the East Midlands.

From a young age, I have always had a passion for teaching, and it was something I knew I wanted to pursue as I got older. I’ve always aspired to be a Performing Arts teacher, but I didn’t want to let go of dance, as it’s such an important part of my life. This course has given me the opportunity to continue pursuing dance while also focusing on the teaching aspect.

If I had the opportunity to give 13-year-old Matilda a piece of advice, I would tell her that it’s okay to let go of people and situations that are holding you back, and that it’s perfectly fine if you’re not everyone’s cup of tea. ☕️

In three years, I will have completed my SCITT and will be working in a secondary school as a Performing Arts teacher. Additionally, I hope to have made progress in the plans for my own dance company, which I am currently in the process of developing.

Meet our UCLan Dance Company members for 2025!

Hi, I’m Kate Rumley and I’m from Gloucestershire.

When looking for a university I wanted a course that had a bit of everything. Although I knew I wanted to learn more about facilitation, I wasn’t ready to give up learning about choreography, performance and improvisation. My first experience of UCLan was so positive and made me feel really creative and inspired - I knew I had to study here!

My advice to first year Kate would be ‘don’t be scared of this new chapter’. The things you will learn, the people you will meet and the opportunities provided to you will play a huge part in shaping the rest of your life. You’re here for a reason and with hard work, new opportunities will arise.

In 3 years time I hope to have a Masters Degree in Dance Education and a PGCE. I would like to be teaching dance within a school, ensuring that creative education is part of every child’s life. A passion of mine, which I hope to continue pursuing, is advocating for the importance of creative arts within curriculums across the UK.

This semester our students are developing their own research enquiries, connecting to current dance practice and exploring how this impacts their own facilitation through a real world placement. Over the last few weeks they have been developing their practice in the studio before heading out to work with school settings, care homes, community groups and adult dancers. Best of luck guys, super invaluable experience!
