Mairead fell in love with performing arts when she enrolled at the Pauline Quirk Academy (PQA) in Preston when she was a child. She was so inspired to continue her studies of music and theatre, she enrolled at the University of Lancashire and gained her degree 🎶

Mairead is now back at PQA and is successfully running her own academy in the Morecambe and Lancaster area. This story is made even more special as Mairead's PQA Principal, who Mairead says she "looked up to" is Aimee Leigh, a fellow graduate of the University of Lancashire 🎓

👚Textile Design graduate, Rowan Shepherd, has been selected for MADE IT 2026, the North West Graduate Art Prize 🌟

Created by artist-led organisation Short Supply, MADE IT was developed to allow recent graduates to take part in a professional exhibition experience with photography, promotion, artist development, networking, awards and paid commissions. Selected artists will also be considered for opportunities including a £1,000 commission from The Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery.

You can see Rowan's work, 'Home is where the Stitch is', which formed part of her First-Class Honours Textile Design project, at the Whitaker until 13 December 2026. Admission is free 🎫.

In addition to this, Rowan is also a finalist in the prestigious 2026 Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery. The Prize Giving Ceremony and Exhibition will take place at The Building Centre in London in November 👏.

A filmmaking alumna has created a documentary telling the story of a Preston astronomer who witnessed an Apollo mission in the 1970s and you can see it for free.

Sarah Bullough has created The Custodian of the Goodwill Moon Rock, which tells the fascinating story of Dermot Gethings who was picked by NASA as a teenager to see the launch of the Apollo 17 mission to the Moon.

This Fine Art Postgraduate Bursary offers two bursaries of £2,500 each to support professional artists returning to higher education. Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ professional practice experience.
