Raees Mohammed used to drive an Uber for a living. Today, he runs a consultancy advising businesses on Islamic ethics and has helped develop a Sharia-compliant investment fund for clients in the Middle East. The journey between those two points started with one particular fare.

His passenger that day was Jon Foster-Pedley, Dean of HenleyAfrica. As they talked, Jon learned about Raees' background as a Quranic scholar, the businesses he'd run, and what he wanted to do next. He didn't just listen. He told Raees he should apply to Henley, and by the time the journey ended, he'd made his case.

Raees was already running his businesses according to Islamic principles. The MBA gave him a structured way to test and develop those ideas, and to think about where they fit within modern business practice.

It's a story about what happens when education works with what someone already knows, rather than starting them from zero.
