Helen's Pet Portraits

Helen's Pet Portraits Pet portrait artist Helen Smith studied Fine Art at the University of Central England (in Birmingham) before becoming a Special Needs Teacher.

On completing her teacher training in Exeter, she moved to Southend in Essex where she became interested in making Bridal and Evening wear and theatrical costumes for local Am-Dram groups. Helen lives with her husband Oliver, a retired vet and although they have had a number of cats, their present dog, Maisie prefers to be a lone pet. The pet portraits started as a fundraiser for Rett UK in memory

of Alison, a friend’s daughter who lived with the lifelong. For the 50 months preceding her 50th birthday Helen undertook challenges - silly, sporting and creative to raise money and awareness for this condition and the charity. The paintings (original challenge to produce 50) have proved to be so enjoyable that she decided to continue doing them. They are 15cm or 6 inches square, acrylic paint on canvas and can be framed in black, white or beech Ikea Ribba box frames ( these have plexi glass so they are suitable for posting). Multiple canvases (2, 3 or 4) can be mounted in a bigger frame as a group. Please ask to see examples. The paintings are £75 each which includes framing. All profits from the sale of the paintings goes to Rett UK
