Tuesday was an incredible day at our Centre for Precision Engineering as we welcomed 12 talented students to take part in our very first Mechanical Engineering Skills Competition!
The event was a real success, bringing together students from our full-time programmes, apprenticeships and Waterside Training to compete for the coveted top spots. Students were challenged to complete both a bench-fitting and a turning task, with each component required to meet industry-standard tolerances.
The atmosphere was fantastic, with employers, parents and staff all joining together to support and cheer on the students as they demonstrated their abilities in a live, high-pressure environment. 🤩
👏 A huge thank you goes to Lloyd & Jones for sponsoring the event, providing every student with a goody bag and generously supplying the top prizes for our winners.
Congratulations to Harvey, who secured an outstanding first place, and to Paige, who achieved a well-deserved runner-up position. The awards were presented by Head of Engineering ,Dave Percy and long-serving team member Dave Pye, who has dedicated an incredible 46 years to the College’s Engineering department.
🗣️ Reflecting on the day, Dave Percy said: “It was such a fantastic event, and I am incredibly proud of every student for the talent and skill they demonstrated. They are a real credit to both their employers and the College. We’re excited to build on this success and make next year’s competition even bigger and better.”
A massive well done to all the students who took part, the standard of work was impressive and you should be extremely proud of what you achieved!
