🧬 Our students are gaining access to industry-standard laboratory equipment thanks to a generous donation from BioGrad.

The two PCR machines will give degree-level microbiology students valuable hands-on experience in DNA amplification, genetics and molecular biology, helping them develop the practical skills needed for careers in the science industry.

This latest investment strengthens our growing partnership with BioGrad, creating exciting opportunities for students to apply their learning in a real-world context and enhance their career prospects.

A huge thank you to BioGrad for supporting the next generation of scientists and investing in our students' futures. 💙

What does it actually cost to leave crime behind, not just materially but symbolically? 💭

What does it mean to lose being someone in a world where you mattered? 🤔

These are the questions Max Dennehy (University of Strathclyde) and Andi Brierley (Leeds Trinity University) address in their new article in The British Journal of Criminology, and they are questions we'll be opening up in the first session of our Criminal Justice Webinar Series.

It's conversation grounded in research and lived experience. And finally, a conversation like this is open to the public.

🎟 Book your place here: https://www.sthelens.ac.uk/event/criminal-justice-webinar/

Meet Bryony, one of our inspiring BA Game Art students at University Centre St Helens! 👾

After working in finance, Bryony decided it was time for a change and chose to pursue something she’d always been passionate about - gaming and art. She previously studied at another university but wanted to move somewhere closer to home where she could truly grow her artistic skills and explore her creativity more freely.

That’s exactly what she found here. 🫶

Bryony says the BA Game Art course has allowed her to express herself in ways she couldn’t before. The learning environment is laid-back and supportive - a refreshing change from her past experiences - and she’s built strong relationships with her tutor and classmates.

🤩 She’s also had lots of opportunities to learn about different roles within the gaming industry, helping her focus her ambitions. Her dream is to work in the gaming sector with a focus on concept art, and with one of her friends graduating last year with top grades, she’s hoping to follow in their footsteps.

💡Her advice to anyone considering a career change:
“Go for it. Take the risk. Take the pay cut if you have to. If you’re not happy, follow your passion.”

We’re so proud of how far Bryony has come - and we can’t wait to see where her creativity takes her next.
