Great to see Falmouth Town Council, UK recognise the work of Euan McPhee, founder of Tregoniggie Woodland ! 🏆

Founded 13 years ago, Tregoniggie Woodland is part of the Falmouth Green Corridor and provides a fantastic community resource for both people and wildlife. We remember Euan helping the 'Gylly Girls' Women's Institute to plant five trees, provided by Forest for Cornwall, in Tregoniggie Woodland in the winter of 2023.

Thank you Euan for your work in the woodland and supporting the community 💚

🔍 Shoresearch is The Wildlife Trusts' national citizen science survey of the intertidal shore: the exciting world of extremes where the sea meets the land.

🪼 Cornwall Wildlife Trust along with several enthusiastic participants recently ran a Shoresearch survey along the Helford. By using a simple and fun method, people get to explore the shore whilst recording the wildlife and habitats they find.

🪸 Citizen science projects like Shoresearch are vital for monitoring our fragile ecosystems and helping us better understand the effects of pressures such as pollution, climate change and invasive species.

🚜 Lee Pedley and his family have been farming at Tawell Farm near Lostwithiel for more than two generations, and they recently made the decision to include more trees in their farm landscape🌳

👀 Have a look at the video to find out their reasons for planting, and how trees will contribute to the health and future success of their business

🙌 It also underlines how straightforward obtaining a tree planting grant can be. Tawell Farm worked with Forest for Cornwall and FWAG South West to bring this project to fruition.

📣 The ‘Back Garden Forest’ tree giveaways will be returning this winter, with events set to take place across Cornwall.

🌳 There will be six different trees to choose from including: dogwood, hazel, crab apple, bird cherry, wayfaring tree and rowan, and all great for wildlife🦋.

ℹ️ Each tree will come with an information card, with details on the species chosen and how to care for it. The Forest for Cornwall team will also be on hand to provide advice on the best tree for your garden.

There is no need to book or reserve a tree in advance, just come along on the day to choose and collect your tree. Don’t forget to bring a bag to carry your young tree home!

📣 Have you ever seen a Common Prawn while rock pooling?

🪸 You can identify them through their clear body, brownish 'tiger' stripes and bright yellow legs.

❓Did You know? Female Common Prawns can carry up to 4,000 fertilised eggs around on their legs!

🔍When you next go rock pooling, keep an eye out for these small but mighty creatures! And be sure to rock pool responsibly, prioritising looking over touching and putting anything you do move back in its place.

🦉 Look who's moved in!

🪺 Gary, who's interested in a tree planting project with Forest for Cornwall, sent us this fantastic footage of a barn owl taking up residence in a nest box he built himself.

🎥 Using free plans from the Barn Owl Trust, Gary installed the box 18 months ago and has finally been rewarded with his first feathered tenant. As a keen wildlife photographer, Gary captured this amazing footage using a specialist wildlife scope, allowing him to film from a safe respectful distance.

🦉 A brilliant reminder that small actions can make a real difference for wildlife!
