Mental Health Matters Society (Sheffield Union)

Mental Health Matters Society (Sheffield Union) We are a Sheffield SU society who campaign for mental health awareness and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Press/media: [email protected] Mental Health Matters society has a shared passion for improving support systems, encouraging outreach, raising awareness and alleviating the stigma which surrounds mental health amongst students and staff at the University of Sheffield. With mental health issues affecting 1 in 4 people at some point in their lives, we believe it is important to fac

ilitate a university community which allows individuals to openly talk about their mental health experiences. Our events, campaigns and close work with the University Counselling Service, Welfare Network and Students' Union aim to nurture this atmosphere and engage individuals in empathetic, educational and understanding discussions on mental health. We welcome new attendees at any point in the academic year - specific details of upcoming events and workshops will be published on this page.

------------------------------------------------------------

This year we are delighted to be supporting Sheffield Mind [http://sheffieldmind.co.uk/] as our chosen charity. They will receive all funds raised by Mental Health Matters in the 2016/17 academic year. We believe the work they do across Sheffield is truly amazing and, in supporting their mission, hope to collaboratively extend our own goals into the wider community. In previous years, we have fundraised for South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association (SYEDA) [http://www.syeda.org.uk/], CALM [https://www.thecalmzone.net/] and Chilypep [http://www.chilypep.org.uk/].
