Who hasn’t heard the name Jacob D**e by now? The infamous man has been seen at many a tournament online and offline over the past few years, filling equity roles from Norwich IV to Mumbai Pre-EUDC, Exeter Open to Nottingham Novices – if he had a slogan for filling Org positions, he’d probably have to go with “Gotta Catch ‘Em All”.

His dedication to debating extends so far that rumour has it, he’s taken multiple years out of University to act as his Guild Education Officer, aka found the ultimate loophole to extend his University debate career for as long as possible.
Having been elected not only as a UoB Guild Officer, but EUDC Deputy Equity Officer, Jacob is more familiar than most with a ballot – something which arguably supports his ballot-filling efforts at tournaments, and is clearly effective considering he’s now chaired finals at Bristol Pro-Am, Queen Mary IV, Christmas Holidays IV and more.

His judge breaks include Southampton Open, Peter Maguire IV, Manchester Novices, Imperial Novices, Dilman Pre-WUDC and many others - at this point, frankly, it may be easier to list the competitions he hasn’t judged. You might worry how he has the time for all of this judging. His secret? Not letting me convince him to speak at more comps!
Beyond the CV, Jacob is known for his love of equity policy and attentive check-ins. He can’t wait to spend yet another weekend dedicating his existence to debating.

May gives us ( debatably ) the greatest northern double billing in all of debate history. Sheffield on the 2nd of May ( this weekend! ) and Liverpool on the 9th of May 😳🤯 If you're interested in either of these comps, the deadlines are today, and the incredible Olivia Mackender will be playing a key part in both!

Being on the wrong side of her 20’s, Liv is what we in the circuit lovingly call a dino - a mythical creature who has quite literally seen it all, judged it all, and somehow managed to keep her vibes completely intact. She has an insane capability of someone who could chair an outround on two hours of sleep and still be able to show up for the social afterwards. With almost eighty judge breaks (yes, eight-zero - singlehandedly carrying the Northern circuit (well until at least until I learn how to extend), Liv’s judging credentials stretch across the continent. She’s broken to judge the Open Quarterfinals of Glasgow and Copenhagen EUDCs, along with multiple Glasgow Ancients, an LSE Open and an Oxford IV. She even somehow managed to obtain the prestigious bronze final chair of Sheffield Novices 2023 (knocking her out-round chairs at tournaments such as Vienna Pre-EUDC, Uhuru Worlds and Nijmegen Open out of the waters). Of course, those who mutter that she’s a “career judge” clearly haven’t been paying attention. Liv is also a formidable speaker. She’s broken tournaments including Princeton IV, Copenhagen Open and Inner Temple IV, and picked up multiple wins, including at her very last minute trip to Porto Open; living proof that she’s as brilliant at convincing judges whilst being both on and off the panel. Luckily I have been graced with having Liv be the other co-convener for Liverpool competitions this year. Rumor has it she’s actually at her most productive while at her actual day job, showing that true multitasking isn’t about time management, it’s about commitment to the bit. If there’s an extensive email or a spreadsheet fixed in record time, odds are she did it somewhere between whatever people with jobs do. Outside the debate bubble, Liv brings the same strategic energy to her other great passion of board games. From absolutely making me nearly lose it in Magic Maze to potentially killing me in Deep Sea Adventure for taking every token I could and killing everyone. Liv definitely has the crazy ability to make any board game 10x more fun. When she turns her attention to CAing, Liv’s taste is, of course, immaculate. Her work on tournaments including Rotterdam Pre-EUDC, Aberdeen Open, and the GLORIOUS Lancaster Schools has shown her ability to blend difficulty, intenseness and just the right dose of chaos to keep things lively. She’s the kind of CA who makes you both want to work harder and have more fun doing it. So overall, she is the perfect CA for Sheffield Pro-Am and I can't wait to see the motions she's got in store!!!

If you're still on the edge today about deciding whether to sign up for Sheffield ProAm this weekend, let our incredible CA team be your deciding factor! :)

Everyone's favourite inter-galactic pop princess is back in Sheffield!! Leauren used to be a menace in the IONA circuit - from debate drama, unbalanced motions, even heaven and hell, Leauren has seen it all.
After taking a two-year wellness break in China, Leauren the menace is back, but in a better place called Wales now. And they are hungry for more. More what? More quality judging. Leauren is a two-times WUDC breaking judge, they chaired the ESL final of Uhuru Worlds 2025, the Octos of Australs 2024, and the Quarters of NAUDC 2023 where they also judged the final. Leauren says their proudest speaking achievement is speaking in Vietnam with the decorated Euros 2025 finalist, Rick Tan. Aside from providing quality judging, Leauren is also here to provide quality motions. Leauren CA'ed the last Sheffield competition as well, Sheffield Novices 2023, famous for having the same number of rooms as Cambridge IV which happened on the same day. While Leauren cannot promise the number of rooms this time will be the same, they can promise the caliber of the motions will be (at least) the same.

Don't miss the opportunity to debate with Leauren at the helm, the deadline for registrations is today!

Wait who is tabbing the Sheffield Pro-Am 2026!? Let's find out:

Soumyajit – a name I am told means calmly winning. I could think of no name more appropriate for such a character - for when wins occur (which they do frequently – he was Grand Final Chair at Norwich IV, and a breaking judge at Southampton Open, UCL IV, and Bristol Pro-Am), these are achieved and received in the most calm and collected fashion (though, in private, he enjoys a little dance and monologue about how the competition is ingredients, and he is a chef, because he cooks!)

Soumyajit’s passion extends to tabbing and convening. Last June, with no prior experience, he convened Norwich’s first ever competition (Norwich Online). In November, he went on to both tab and convene Norwich’s first ever in-person competition (Norwich Mini). This March, he did it again! He tabbed and convened Norwich IV, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Whether it is driving across town to collect air mattresses from facebook marketplace, finding crash for a last-minute sign-up of 10 teams, or running day 2 of a comp on two hour’s sleep, his enthusiasm and resourcefulness allow him to thrive. In light of this, tabbing at Sheffield should be a breeze for Soumyajit, and I am confident he will bring his usual energy.
