2009 was no ordinary year for Sheffield alum Peter Jalowiczor. It was the year he discovered his first planet! 🌍✨

On an otherwise ordinary Christmas Eve, Peter sat down to do something he loved: analysing publicly available NASA data. A couple of hours later, he spotted something extraordinary: his first planet 🤯 It was orbiting a distant star hundreds of light years from Earth. And just a few months later, three more discoveries followed.

Peter’s passion for astronomy began long before Sheffield, but it was during his time here that it really took off. Studying under Professor David Hughes, he developed his lifelong interest into a passion that would eventually lead to discoveries recognised by NASA.

Three Sheffield graduates, one Sheffield family and a story that started back in the 90s.

Milly graduated this July, joining her parents as a Sheffield alumni. They met while studying here (check out the SU in 1994!), and Sheffield has been part of their family story ever since. Now, her brother has just finished his first year at Sheffield too!
