The rain may have made an appearance, but that didn't stop the celebrations! A brilliant weekend full of colour, music and people coming together.

A brilliant summer on the water for our student sailors! ⛵️

Over 15 students took part in the Round the Island Race and Cowes Week, competing across a range of boats alongside sailors from the UK and beyond.

There were some fantastic performances in both events, with our students making their mark on the water.

This year’s Cowes Week marked the event’s 200th anniversary, making it a particularly special year to be part of.

A huge well done to everyone who took part. Check out some of the highlights from both events 📸

‘Sea, Sky and Earth’ showcases pieces by undergraduate Fine Art students, our past and present staff, and artwork by established artists – drawn from our University Art Collection.

When music meets research 🎶

Dr Samantha Ege is redefining what it means to be both a musician and a researcher. As a pianist and musicologist, she brings the overlooked stories of African American women composers to life through performance, making her research accessible beyond academia. Her work expands the classical canon while connecting audiences with history in a powerful, personal way.

“By being both a performer and a historian, I can tell the stories of these musicians in a truly unique way.”

"I don’t need to force a narrative of Black women in classical music… that history is already there. I’m just giving it a voice. There’s something almost spiritual about it - connecting with someone through sound, across time."

“I became the pianist I didn’t even realise I was preparing to be, telling the stories of the women who made that journey possible.”
