BSPS is a young society with the main aim to provide both educational and social events for the hard working postgrad students of B85 and beyond! We’ve got some really exciting events planned for this year so check out our events section! We are always keen to hear what you expect from us as a society, so if you have any ideas for events or there were things you would like to see us doing more often then please feel free to get in contact! Meet Anne, our Treasurer, who’ll be keeping a close eye on the finances while waging an ongoing, and seemingly deeply personal battle against plate readers. Away from the lab, she’s a keen knitter, gamer and gym-goer, a devoted Norway patriot (could you tell?), and someone whose love of milk has reached the point where we might need to double check the budgeting. 👀💰🥛

Next up is Magda, our Social Sec, responsible for being everyone together and making sure there is a social life beyond the lab. She spends her PhD convincing bacteria to eat plastic, but apparently her real scientific challenge is determine how much caffeine a human can consume before becoming one with the coffee machine ☕️ – and her dedication to tracking down F1 drivers at race weekends suggests she’s conducting field world in her spare time. 🏎️🏁

Meet Ryn, our wellbeing Officer, who’ll be helping making sure the PhD experience involves at least some wellbeing alongside the long lab days. When not optimising E. coli assays, Ryn can be found at one of their many hobbies, between a gig, cinema, a gaming session or a good book – looks like they’ve found the perfect balance and the perfect person for the role.

Next up is Molly, our communications officer, she’ll be keeping your feed up to date with everything BSPS, ideally without opening up yet another browser window 🤨 When she’s not staring down a microscope investigating mitochondrial quality control, you’ll find her poolside coaching swimming and triathlon; in fact, she’s coached many of the B85 members and their families over the years, so there’s a good chance she’s already questioned your underwater technique! 🏊‍♀️

First up in our BSPS Committee introductions is Sarah, our Health and Safety Officer, who will be making sure our events remain fun without becoming case studies for her next risk assessment! Outside the lab, she swaps microbial syncoms for running routes and abstract pottery, all fuelled by what can only be described as a medically concerning relationship with caffeine.☕️🏺🏃‍♀️
