The application deadline for our Black Futures PhD scholarships has been extended!

These scholarships offer full funding for UK Black students to do a PhD with us in the 2025-26 academic year

The scholarship includes:
- A £20,780 per annum tax-free stipend, for 3.5 years
- Full UK fees paid
- An annual training grant of £1,100 to support your development as a researcher
- A bespoke professional development programme & careers support

The University’s newly-established FLOOD CDT are recruiting doctoral researchers to help tackle the ever-present risk of flooding

Flooding is the UK’s most destructive natural hazard, and poses a significant global threat to nearly two billion people worldwide

The FLOOD CDT offers fully-funded PhD projects in areas like modelling, AI, remote sensing, hydrology, oceanography, environmental geography and more

Researchers will develop the key technological and professional skills needed to devise practical, innovative and sustainable flood mitigation solutions

Currently, the Centre are taking applications from UK nationals – applicants should have (or be expected to achieve) a good undergraduate or Master’s degree (at least a 2.1 honours degree)

Graduation is almost here! Here's everything you need to know to make the most of your special day 🎓 ✨

Plan Your Journey 🚆 🚌 🚗
- Train: O2 Guildhall Southampton is a short walk from Southampton Central station.
- Bus: The nearest stop to Guildhall Square is Cenotaph (Stop HA), served by Unilink U1 and U2. The nearest stop to Wi******er Cathedral is Broadway St. Johns, a 5-minute walk away.
- Parking: There are several car parks within a 10-minute walk.

What to Bring 🪪 💧 🎒
- A form of ID
- Water (stay hydrated!)
- No alcoholic drinks, suitcases, or large bags allowed. Security will conduct bag searches.

Attire 👩‍🎓 👨‍🎓
- For Southampton ceremonies: collect your robes from 1 Guildhall Square.
- For Wi******er ceremonies: collect your robes from Wi******er Guildhall.
- Return them after your ceremony or the drinks reception.

Photography 📸
- Pre-book your session with Tempest Photography.
- Allow enough time to travel between locations and avoid booking during your ceremony.

Livestream 📺
- If your guests are unable to attend, they can watch the livestream on YouTube or via the Graduation website.

During Your Ceremony 🎓
- Ceremonies will last approximately 2 hours.
- Ushers will let you know when it is your turn to join the procession queue.
- When you cross the stage, names will be called, and handshakes (or an equivalent formal gesture) will be given by a member of the academic platform party. Please do not bring any belongings on stage as you will be returning to your original seat.
- After you have crossed the stage, ushers will help guide you back to your seat.

Celebrations 🥂
- After your ceremony, there will be an opportunity to celebrate with your peers, academics, and guests at your drinks reception.
- For ceremonies at Guildhall, the drinks reception will be held in Guildhall Square.
- For ceremonies at Wi******er Cathedral, the drinks reception will be held in the Cathedral Café just outside the venue.
- Use your e-ticket for entry and your free drink.
