Professor John Marshall has spent the last 30 years exploring the Arctic, living and working in remote camps in extreme conditions.

In the New Year’s Honours List, John was awarded The Polar Medal in recognition of his outstanding achievements in polar research, which has included discovering new evidence of some of the world’s first forests and four-legged animals and a mass extinction event over 360 million years ago.
