Turathna al-Hayy”: Celebrating Egyptian and Palestinian Living Heritage – October 23

Join us at AUC Tahrir and on zoom on October 23 for a day of celebration of Egyptian and Palestinian living heritage!

The event brings together scholars, creatives, and communities engaged with Palestinian and Egyptian heritage in its many forms. Conversations will focus on living heritage, especially forms of heritage actively eradicated or at risk of disappearing, with focus on heritage as part of community memory and shared futures.

Turathna al-Hayy is hosted by Noha Abou-Khatwa (AUC), who co-organized it with Heba Abd El Gawad (Horniman Museum), Georgia Andreou (Southampton U), Katherine Blouin (U of Toronto), and Christine Johnston (Western Washington U).

It is open to all interested students, scholars, and heritage professionals.

Our module Thinking Through Things: The Archaeology and Anthropology of Material Worlds explores the deep and inseparable relationship between people and things.

The module includes three hands-on practicals, each focused on a different type of material. Students get up close with real objects! Along the way they build essential skills for the archaeology sector, such as archaeological illustration, while also learning to slow down and engage with objects through careful, deliberate and embodied practice.
