🎨 End of Year Show: Level 4 Foundation Art & Design

This year’s exhibition, Patterns of Perception, showcases how our students have explored the patterns that shape their understanding of the world, from the visible to those beneath the surface of memory and emotion.

Starting from an open brief, students have created a diverse collection of work that moves between the intuitive and the intentional, offering unique perspectives on how we see and interpret the world around us.

Meet Ashton, a Level 3 Advanced Professional Cookery student at Thurrock College 🍽️

After winning Silver at the FEDEC Inter-College Skills Competition, Ashton secured a work experience opportunity with King’s College London.

Working in a fast-paced professional kitchen, he put his training into practice, developing key skills in time management, attention to detail and working to industry standards.

Real industry experience starts here 🔧

Our Level 2 Motor Vehicle students at Basildon College recently worked with Halfords Auto Centre at our Stephenson Road campus, gaining first-hand insight into automotive apprenticeships and careers in the motor vehicle industry.

Through hands-on workshop tasks and direct engagement with industry professionals, students developed practical skills, built confidence and gained a clearer understanding of employer expectations and career pathways in the automotive sector.

“This session made me feel more confident in my abilities… I’d love the opportunity to start an apprenticeship with Halfords.”

Maddy started with no previous background in marine engineering, but after discovering a passion for the subject, progressed onto the Maritime Engineering Technician Apprenticeship at Basildon College, Luckyn Lane Campus.

Now gaining real-world experience in the workplace, she is building practical skills, confidence and a pathway into an exciting industry.

From the classroom to Coutts Bank ✨

After finishing school, Holly was unsure what to do next, but she knew sixth form wasn’t the right path for her, she wanted something hands-on and creative.

She studied Professional Patisserie and Confectionery with South Essex Colleges Group and turned her passion into a career in a top professional kitchen.

Her tutor, Sasha, made a huge impact, her passion for both the practical elements and the food science aspect of it was inspirational. Holly knew this was the right course for her.

In year two, Holly secured a four-week work experience placement at Coutts Bank which changed everything.

🗨️“It was my first experience in a professional kitchen, and I learnt so much in such a short time. I’m incredibly grateful because that placement led directly to my current role; I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without it.”
