Laura is a mature student, studying Wildlife Conservation, who’s absolutely loving her time at NTU🌿🐾

Heading into her final year this September, Laura has already packed a lot into her degree. She’s completed a placement in Italy monitoring Griffin vultures, explored the wildlife of Somiedo in Spain, and gone on trips to see seals and Barbary macaques.

Back at Brackenhurst, she’s been involved with the Lab Club, the University Mammal Challenge and the , making the most of every opportunity both in and out of the classroom.

Which is your favourite? Leave a comment 🚜


Students use the New Holland to develop tractor driving skills, including trailer manoeuvring and 3-point linkage work. They also gain experience using the loader for bulk handling, pallet stacking and trailer loading. It is further used for fieldwork, estates management tasks and ploughing competitions.

Students have opportunity to use the John Deere 6R.185 to practice tractor operations on a larger machine. They also use the 6R.185 to drill crops in the student field and to carry out routine farm duties.

The Case Maxxum 145 is used for driving training, trailer manoeuvring and front and rear 3-point linkage work. Students also use it for subsoiling, ploughing, discing and seed drilling. GPS and autosteer technology enable precision field operations with accuracy of up to ±2cm.

Students develop driving skills in the Fendt 314 Vario, including trailer manoeuvring and front and rear 3-point linkage work. It is also used for fieldwork, paddock maintenance, and student participation in ploughing matches. GPS and autosteer technology enable precision field operations with accuracy of up to ±2cm.

Students use the 398 to further develop their tractor operation skills, including trailer manoeuvring and 3-point linkage work. It is also used for fieldwork and paddock maintenance, such as ploughing, cultivating and rolling. It is one of the tractors regularly used by students in local ploughing matches.

Students use the JCB for materials handling practicals, including loading trailers and stacking pallets. They also use the JCB when undertaking their LANTRA telehandler tests.

Students have opportunity to use the Manitou for estate tasks, farm duties and materials handling practicals once they have gained experience on the JCB.

Students use these tractors for mastering basic principles, including close quarters manoeuvring and trailer reversing. They are also used for paddock maintenance practicals such as chain harrowing and estates tasks such as wood chipping.
