At University Centre Sparsholt (UCS), we pride ourselves on our ability to provide our students with world-class facilities, to best prepare them for a career in their chosen pathway. In this mini-series of posts, we will be highlighting some of our favourite areas of campus. [3 of 6]

Overlooking one of the best views on campus sits the Aquatic Research and Conservation Centre (ARCC). This building is divided into two halves, with one half stocking sport and commercial fish, such as carp and tilapia, while the other half houses countless freshwater and marine fish tanks. For our budding marine ecologists, they get to understand how different aquatic ecosystems work around the world, while learning about corals and various other custodians of the marine world, ready for careers around coastal areas. And for our aquaculture students, this building serves as their hub for learning how to raise fish, check water chemistry, and hone their practical skills with industry-standard equipment.

At University Centre Sparsholt (UCS), we pride ourselves on our ability to provide our students with world-class facilities, to best prepare them for a career in their chosen pathway. In this mini-series of posts, we will be highlighting some of our favourite areas of campus. [2 of 6]

Nestled within one of the most practical corners of our campus is the Animal Health, Welfare, and Research Centre (AHWRC). Formally opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2022, this centre has been home to a myriad of different species for years. Ranging from amphibians such as the critically endangered, thumbnail-sized golden mantella, to charismatic mammals such as our red panda, this centre is the home of animal welfare at UCS. Our zoo and animal keepers work tirelessly to ensure all of our animals have their needs being met through opportunities to perform natural behaviours and experience natural-like conditions. Students get to experience a hands-on, professional environment that gets them ready for life after graduating - it truly is a lovely place to learn.

At the heart of campus sits our Higher Education Research and Science Centre, a sustainable, recently developed hub of activity for our university cohort. Students will find social areas, classrooms, laboratories, and relaxation spaces within this building, allowing them to feel fully supported throughout their studies.
