This message is as much an important one as it is a difficult one for me to write. This last week was life-changing, it was moving, it was challenging, and it was probably one of the most stressful, time- and mind- consuming things I have ever done. Yet, it was also so incredibly important and not for one moment do I regret going for it, running for President, and doing this campaign together with so many passionate and caring fellow students.
I did not do it for the position or any prestige that might or might not be associated with it. I ran because I CARE A LOT about St Andrews and because I wished I could have had more time in this special town to make a difference. In my four years in St Andrews, I have given so much to this community. I have lived every day with a goal to make a difference. It was never easy but regardless of the close election loss I know that I have changed things and that in my short time here I left a legacy.
I know that I could have done so much more, and it broke my heart that this dream will never come to be and that now I must let it go.
I know so many of you dreamed this together with me and I cannot begin to express the gratitude to the many people that supported the campaign, that committed so much of their time last week, that voted and supported me. It was a close election and it just needed 50 or so more votes and things could have looked very different!
But regadless, what we did was so important, and I hope we lay a steppingstone for a future student to take this vision of a fairer, more just, caring, and sustainable St Andrews and run with it. I am proud of what we achieved last week, and I hope that sustainability will never again be a side consideration for a Presidential Election because it is so much more than printed paper and recycling. It is about our future and I hope that you will always fight for that. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for sharing this vision with me.
