Did you know that Fife has put brand new equipment into its sorting plant, a first for Scotland? This means you can now recycle more!
From the 21st February films, wrappers, packets, plastic pouches and bags, will be collected in your green bin, on your four-weekly cycle. They’ll then be recycled into Ecosheet - a plywood alternative that can be used in construction, DIY, agriculture, and fabrication.

Radio 2 listeners this morning may have heard a message from Professor Sally Mapstone, the incoming Principal of St Andrews. Sally messaged the Chris Evans show to say that she and her husband were travelling up to St Andrews, and that she was feeling much like a new student coming to the University for the first time! As a way to welcome Sally and all of the new St Andrews students, we’ve put together a list of five things we think anyone new to St Andrews should do.

1 Head to a St Andrews student favourite – Janettas – to get an ice cream in the sunshine. Choose from the myriad of flavours available and then head down to the beach to enjoy the ice cream and the stunning views!

2 Get kitted out in University of St Andrews merchandise. While Sally won’t need one of our iconic red undergraduate gowns, we definitely recommend the University hoodies for the cool Scottish evenings. A range of clothing can be found in the shop within the Students’ Association.

3 With hundreds of student events going on in Orientation week, there are a raft of opportunities for Sally to meet some St Andrews students, and for new students to meet each other! Take a look at the Orientation app to plan your Orientation calendar: https://guidebook.com/guide/69088/

4 Get orientated with the University buildings. The easiest way to get to know St Andrews is to head out and wander across the town. You’ll soon recognise St Andrews landmarks such as the circular Gateway building on the North Haugh and the historical St Salvator’s Quad on North street.

5 St Andrews traditions can seem bizarre – especially if you’ve never heard of Raisin Weekend, academic parents or student soakings! We recommend that Sally reads up on the traditions – or else she might find herself accidentally stepping on the PH: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/study/why/life/traditions/

Whether you’re the incoming Principal or a new student, we can’t wait to welcome you to St Andrews. Let us know what your plans are for your first few days in the town!

All applications are currently being reviewed by the appropriate departments and we hope to send out the first round on interview invitations by the end of next week.
We aim to tell everyone by email by 1st April 2016 whether or not they have been shortlisted for interview. Most interviews will take place between 4th and 15th April. Sometimes, if you have been selected as a reserve (to be potentially interviewed if someone else drops out) it can take a little bit longer than that for us to contact you.
