The Lafayette Club The largest speech society at St Andrews, est. 2016. Connecting the next generation to the people who have some idea of what the hell is going on.

We know the world is a mess. We also know that it will be down to the students of this generation to sort this all out. At The Lafayette Club our single aim is to bring together students and young people with the leaders from around the world who have some idea what the hell is going on (and may even have some thoughts on what to do about it). We try to create the forum for these ideas to be discu

ssed in a serious and meaningful way. We find interesting people from France to Fiji and bring them to a windy town in Fife, and sometimes go and chase after them to record their thoughts for our podcast. The 19-year-old Marquis de Lafayette sailed from his native France to fight in America for the principles of liberty and democracy. If he could do that, we think we should do our little bit to show that our generation cares about what happens in our society, and that we are ready to do something about it. We hope you will join us.

As the academic year commences, let’s check in with some of our outgoing committee members who graduated in June!

While earning his degree in International Relations, Satyajit served on the committee of the Lafayette Club, and was one of our directors during the 2020-2021 academic year. Now, Satyajit is living in London as he begins work as a consultant, joining Xinfu, an award-winning global consulting firm that has worked with Fortune 500 companies, specialising in providing coaching and consulting to CEOs and executives. Good luck, Satyajit!

While earning her degree in International Relations and Spanish, Harriet served on the committee of the Lafayette Club. Now, Harriet is off to Wadham College, Oxford in pursuit of a Master’s in Latin American Studies. Good luck, Harriet!

As the coming academic year approaches, let’s highlight some of our outgoing committee members who graduated in June!

While earning her degree in Medieval History, Rose served on the committee of the Lafayette Club, named one of its directors during 2020-2021. Now, Rose is off to University College London in pursuit of a Master’s in Medieval and Renaissance History. Good luck, Rose!
