World Mental Health Day | 10 October

Bzz… how are you?

Remember to take care of your mental health today and throughout the year. Take some time to check in with yourself and with the people around you.

If you’re a St Andrews student and need support, you can reach out to Student Services or access support through ASC.

Coursework & Group Project Tips

Starting an assignment or group project? Here are some tips to help you get organised and know where to find support.

START WITH THE BRIEF
Read the assignment brief fully. Check the deadline, submission instructions, required format, word count and referencing requirements.

USE THE SUPPORT AROUND YOU
• Tutor: Clarifying the assignment or subject material
• Module coordinator: Extension requests
• CAPOD/Academic Skills: Study and academic skills
• Library: Sources, databases and referencing
• Disability Support: Support and adjustments where applicable

GROUP PROJECTS
At your first meeting:
• Understand the task and agree on your approach
• Divide tasks and responsibilities
• Set internal deadlines and check in regularly
• Choose how you’ll communicate
• Decide when you’ll meet again
• Keep your plans somewhere everyone can access

DON’T WAIT FOR MOTIVATION
Schedule work sessions and decide what you want to accomplish beforehand. If you’re stuck, start small and split the work into manageable chunks. Starting badly is often more useful than waiting to start perfectly.

COMMUNICATE EARLY
Tell your group if you’ll miss a deadline, ask for help if you’re stuck, check in if someone goes quiet, be clear about expectations and keep discussions respectful.

If a group member isn’t contributing, check in and give them an opportunity to respond. Keep track of responsibilities and communication rather than silently taking on their work. If problems continue, speak to your tutor or module coordinator early.

🚌 GOOD NIGHT OUT GUIDE: The University Night Bus

Planning a night out in St Andrews? Make sure you know how you're getting home!

The University Night Bus helps students get around town at night, with stops including the Main Library, Ayton House, DRA and the Students’ Union.

A few things to remember:
💳 Bring your University matriculation card.
🚫 No food or drink on board.
🕙 Check the timetable before travelling, as services run during semester and may change.

Look out for your friends, plan your journey home and make sure nobody is left getting home alone.
