We work with partner societies to deliver technical support, training and event management. ExeTech is the University’s only technical theatre society. Offering socials and training for those interested in lighting, sound, set and stage management of theatre and musical theatre shows. We welcome students with any level of experience, including never having done it before! We offer training so that

members can learn, and improve their skills, but also work on university productions throughout the year, whether they just want to try something out, or be a lead designer and operator for a show! As an essential part of productions, tech is a great way to get involved in Theatre at Exeter! Looking for a break from revision, coursework, or essays? Join us this Thursday at The Stoke Arms for a fun night at their pub quiz!

We’ll be heading over around 7:30 PM to grab some tables, and the quiz starts at 8:30 PM.

Before the quiz starts we will also be consulting about a couple of proposed changes to our committee structure for next year to see what you all think!

Deputy Stage Management & Linking Cues 💡🔊

Join us this Thursday evening! We’ll be talking about the role of a deputy stage manager, who’s responsible for keeping everything on stage running smoothly. We’ll talk about how they mark up their script, call cues during a performance, and coordinate everything from lights to sound to set changes.

We’ll also cover how it’s possible to use a network to link lighting and sound cues together.

The session will be in RSSR (upstairs in Roborough) at 7pm.

💡 Moving Lights and Effects 🚨

Join us on Sunday morning where we’ll be covering a couple of lighting topics!

We’ll be talking about our LED moving lights, and how these lights may be different in the way they’re powered and connected to a lighting desk. We’ll also be covering how to create dynamic lighting states using effects in EOS.

Afterwards the plan is to head to the imperial for some lunch!

We’ll be starting at 12:00 in Colonnade (upstairs in Kay House).

For our social this week, we’re hosting a scavenger hunt! We’ll be meeting at the Imperial and heading off for a series of fun challenges around town. You’ll be split into teams, and there’s a prize for the first team to successfully complete all the challenges.

This social is open to non-members so please feel free to bring along friends!

🔊 Intro to QLab 📽️

Join us this Thursday for an interactive training session on QLab, industry-standard software used to control playback of sound effects, video, lighting and more!

We’ll go over creating cues, importing sounds and making basic edits, and how to route sound effects to speakers around your space or set. We’ll also cover the basics of using QLab for video.

We’ll be starting at 6:45pm in RSSR, which is located upstairs in Roborough Studios.

🎤 Sound Recording and
Editing 🎶

Join us on Monday for a training session on sound recording and editing!

We’ll dive into using Logic, a powerful tool for sound design that’s ideal for recording and editing audio clips, creating sound effects, and layering a range of sounds to build soundscapes.

We’ll be starting at 18:45 in Thornlea (opposite the Imperial Wetherspoons).

🎭 Makeup Design for Theatre 🎭

Join us on Wednesday for a training session on all things theatrical makeup design!

We’ll be covering how designers make decisions on a actor/character’s makeup, how special effects can be created, how makeup integrates with costume and hair, and how it is adapted for stage lighting.

We’ll be starting at 7pm in SR1, which is located in the Thornlea drama building (opposite the Imperial Wetherspoons).

Exetech 2019-2020

ExeTech are Exeter University's only technical theatre and events society. This year we plan to emphasise the social and training aspect of our role within the university, and provide opportunites and training to build the technical community. We welcome students with any level of experience and hope to offer training so that members can work on university productions throughout the year, whether you just want to try it out or tech for a show! We also hope to compile and add to a resource centre to provide resources for techies and others in order to keep things runnning as smoothly as possible.
