Staines-on-Thames is in the Thames Basin and is playing host to several large-scale regeneration schemes from multiple well-known housing developers.

Residents who enjoy a stroll along the Thames will be aware of the ongoing saga of Bridge 142 located near Egham, just South of the Runnymede Bridge/M25 bridge, which has been closed since early 2024. While it was right to prioritise safety, following concerns being raised, the length of time to resolve this and the failure by the Environment Agency to maintain and replace assets such as this is more than frustrating.

Despite repeated delays and dialogue, I have continued to press for action and I am delighted to have at last received a positive update - residents can look forward to EA representatives carrying out ground investigations this month with plans for progress on design, planning approvals and pre-installation preparatory work to follow. On site work is currently estimated to commence in mid/late August for approximately 8-12 weeks.

This popular route has been out of action for far too long and I will be keeping a close eye on progress against this timescale.

Along with other local hospitals, Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has declared a Critical Incident this afternoon due to sustained and significant pressure on services. This is primarily driven by a high number of attendances at the Emergency Department and a lack of available beds in inpatient wards.

Members of the public can help support us during this time by:
- Continuing to use community healthcare services such as pharmacies, GP practices, walk-in centres, and NHS 111 (online or by phone, 24/7) for urgent health advice.
- Only calling 999 or attending the Emergency Department for serious or life-threatening conditions.
- Attending appointments as normal unless contacted directly by staff to reschedule.
- Following additional infection prevention measures when visiting, including good hand hygiene, limiting movement around the site, and wearing masks in our Emergency Department.
