The most recent addition to our is from 2007 BA French and Spanish alumna, Dr Gwen Windpassinger. 💚📚

Dr Gwen is an Educational Consultant, Media Educator and author, who's new book, It’s Not About The Screens, centres around the struggles faced by parents in the digital age, offering a different way of looking at parenting, one that’s calmer, warmer and more deeply connected. 🫂

She credits Stirling for helping shape the person she is today: “My years at Stirling helped shape not only my academic journey, but also who I am as a person. Scotland became a second home to me, and the openness, sense of community and international outlook I experienced there continue to influence my work as an educator, author and speaker today.”

For today's post, we're doing something a little different and hoping the community can help us learn more about the original Stirling University Sailing Club (SUSC). 💚

The article below comes from a 1973 edition of the Brig newspaper and highlights the Sailing Club's activities at the time, including the squad racing Heriot-Watt and Strathclyde, as well as qualifying for the Scottish Universities Sailing Association Championships in Aberdeen. ⛵

As the Sailing Club is in the process of relaunching, Commodore, Will, is keen to discover more about the club's history and connect with those who helped build it. In particular, he'd love to hear about:

⛵ How the club was originally structured and who owned the fleet of Larks
⛵ Sailing on Airthrey Loch
⛵ The history of the club and its Commodores
⛵ And most importantly, your personal memories, highlights, and experiences as part of the team

While researching the club's past, Will also discovered its connection to the University's first Principal. Did you know that at the request of Tom Cottrell, the campus link bridge was designed with enough height for dinghy masts to pass beneath? 🌉

Two weeks ago, we held a special alumni gathering at Art Alba Gallery in Hong Kong, hosted by Stirling alumnus and gallery curator Charles. 💚

The gathering offered an exclusive viewing experience of artwork from Scottish, Chinese and Asian artists and guests also enjoyed drinks and refreshments. This was a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with the University and connect with fellow alumni of Stirling in Hong Kong. 🥂

To celebrate the Commonwealth Games’ return to Scotland after it was last held in Glasgow 12 years ago, we’re inviting you to a special online panel discussion, bringing together members of the University of Stirling sporting community. 💚

You’ll hear fascinating behind-the-scenes insights from an inspiring panel, including alumnus and Team Scotland’s Deputy Chef de Mission, Chris Purdie; final year student, Eilidh McNish, who has undertaken a placement with Glasgow 2026 as part of her degree; and Stirling High Performance Swim Coach, Josh Williamson. There will also be a chance to put your own questions to our fab panellists in a live Q&A.

As we look ahead to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, this is your chance to find out about Stirling athletes with medal chances and how Stirling is contributing to the Games as Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence.
