Two teams of graduating Film and Media and Journalism students have made short documentary films for the BBC's Disclosure strand, in an unprecedented partnership between Stirling Uni and BBC Scotland The project combined master classes and training with developing and making investigative films. The production teams now leave university with BBC credits and a UK wide audience for their work - this was a unique opportunity, and we are very proud of the films they have made.

Some of you may know that we ran the Focus on Scotland Factual Television Festival in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
In 2018 and 2019 we organised the nationwide Perfect Pitch contest as part of the Festival, with support from BBC Scotland, who set a brief for students to propose and pitch an idea for a 30-minute documentary.
The competition was open to all practical production students in Scotland, and was judged by senior figures from the television industry. Shortlisted students pitched to a panel chaired by BBC Scotland's Louise Thornton.
Stirling students won the Perfect Pitch contest in both 2018, and 2019. Last year's winner was 4th year Film and Media student Niamh Cowling. The BBC liked the idea so much that it was commissioned as a TV documentary, Not Your Average Influencers. It is broadcast tonight at 10pm on BBC Scotland.
The film tackles important issues around gender and mental health, following a young Scottish couple with a big presence on social media who are facing major decisions in their lives.
You can see Not Your Average Influencers tonight on BBC Scotland. Stirling graduate Niamh was researcher on the documentary, which was produced by Stirling alumna Adele Spark. This is a fantastic achievement for Niamh and for Stirling.
Please watch if you can. There's a clip here:

As part of CMC's Industry Insights series of media master classes, we are delighted to welcome radio producer Phil Reevell to the university on Wednesday October 2. He will talk about some of his recent work, including his series Everyday Americans and File on Four documentary which both covered the opioids crisis in the U.S.

Phil will also cover his series Trumped, which examined the presidency through discussion of Trump's tweets.

Phil Reevell has produced audio work on politics and culture for over 25 years, and has made many programmes for the World Service and Radio 4. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear from a storyteller who is chronicling the cultural upheaval in the US and UK, and engage with some of the best factual audio work being produced in this country.

Phil's 90 minute masterclass will be in Pathfoot Lecture Theatre at 2pm on Wednesday 2 October

We are delighted that a group of Stirling alumni who went on to form a production company will have their 30 minute documentary The Bad Guy broadcast on the BBC Scotland channel tonight, September 3rd.

Cory Thomas, Laura Buchanan, Marco Di Gioa, Giulia Veronelli and Danny Flynn stuck together after making an award winning short film as their documentary dissertation. After a showcase of student work in Glasgow, they were approached by BBC execs who went on to commission a 30 minute broadcast version.

It's a fantastic achievement and we hope you can watch the film when it goes out tonight (3/9/19) on the BBC Scotland channel at 10.30pm. If not, please catch it on iPlayer:
