This week is full of exciting things!

To begin with, today marks the beginning of Staffordshire University Students’ Union ‘Green Week’, a week dedicated to raising awareness, events and activities focused on sustainability. Sustainability is one of our society’s core values, and we have been working hard to create events this week! Watch this space!

Today also marks an important day – It’s Global Recycling Day! Be a and showcase your recycling efforts.

And if that wasn’t enough, it’s also Food Waste Action Week! A week dedicated to combating food waste.

And if that wasn’t enough, it’s also Debt Awareness Week! Even though it’s not directly related to our society, the impact and the factors around debt fall under the umbrella of social justice, so we thought it was worth mentioning.

And if that wasn’t enough, It’s also Neurodiversity Celebration Week! This is a topic close to my heart as someone who is neurodivergent. Neruodiversity Celebration Week is about celebrating our differences, tackling assumptions and stereotypes.
As you can imagine, we are busy behind the scenes, trying to make this week amazing! Watch this space for some of the exciting things we get up too!

It’s Friday!
We know what that means 😊 It’s time for the photograph of the week!

Today, while walking near the University, I came across this cute, fluffy caterpillar! Possibly a Garden Tiger Moth Caterpillar…

This picture reminds us that amongst the chaos of life, to pause, take a deep breath and look around. You never know what you might discover 😊

While out for a walk this afternoon, I spotted a whole host of wildlife, from bee's to squirrels, but the highlight of the walk was seeing this duck, swimming against the river Trent tide and then harboring towards the side of the river...

Life can often feel like we are swimming against the tide, with the constant demands and pressures of university, work and other commitments, it can often feel like we are alone, no one will listen or understand or feel the way you feel... like the lone duck on the river Trent...

However you are feeling, whatever the challenges you are facing, there will always be someone who will listen, understand and support you though this... you don't have to struggle alone...

However you spend University Mental Health day, remember it's ok not to be ok, talk, text, email or video call someone, whether it's a friend, a lecturer, a Mental Health First Aider, doctor, the university or union... talk to someone, you don't have to struggle alone....

On Sunday, while walking, I came across a digital billboard displaying National Highways ‘Lend a paw, Bin your litter’ campaign. Highlighting such an important message ‘Litter kills’.

https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-work/environment/bin-your-litter/

Let's all work together to make our streets, neighbourhoods, highways, and planet safe and litter-free places; whether it’s a full or overflowing bin, smashed glass or litter, please report it.

- Seen litter on a highway? – report it, through National Highway’s online reporting too: https://report.nationalhighways.co.uk/

- Seen litter in your local area? Report it to your local council.

- Not sure who to send the report to? Check out GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/report-litter

Can’t find how to report it to your local council? Try the Love Clean Streets App or website (https://lovecleanstreets.info/) or the FixMyStreet.com website (https://www.fixmystreet.com/)

The tool lets you attach a photograph to the report and pinpoint the problem's location (great for parks, rural areas, or obscure areas).
