Exciting news… Staffordshire uni fashion students will be wearing/ showing their own sustainable garments 💚
Here’s a little about their outfits and their passion for fashion!
Eryn- I’m a second year student at Staffordshire university! My outfits a commercial design that has a punk/beatnik influence to it. I incorporated recycled pvc with the coat and the coat and skirt both have detachable elements so the garments can be worn in more ways than one meaning a more long-lasting product in the customers wardrobe!
Bogdan- I’m a level 4 (first year) student at Staffordshire university! My design takes inspiration from neo street wear, featuring an oversized silhouette, it also has design features such as appliqués that take inspiration from graffiti and Art from the streets of Manchester. Use of the frayed edge that gets disregarded from rolls of denim is found tied around the trousers which led to no/less waste when being made.
Annica- I’m a full time fashion student at Staffordshire university! I was first introduced to sewing and fashion about the age of 6 when I saw a domestic sewing machine's needle.. it was my mom's sewing machine. I just remember asking myself how this needle can even sew anything, it just looked so different from what I was accustomed to “the hand sewing needle”. At secondary school the clothing and textiles module was introduced to our curriculum, from my very first session we were asked questions like, why we think people sew or design garments etc. I clearly remember one of the answers was the satisfactory feeling that the designer receives after successfully creating a garment, knowing it was all done by you. It was at that point I knew I was hooked to the fashion world. At my CXC (Caribbean Examination Council), I earned 5th place in the entire Carribean for the subject Clothing & Textiles. Since then I have been creating articles of clothing for myself, friends, family, and clients. There isn't day without inspiration and creation. My collection was inspired by summer in the tropical islands. With vibrant colours ,movement of the sea breeze, and lush green lands, this collection moves with the body.
