“Staffs was the catalyst for everything in my life - my career, my family, all of it.” 🎓✨

For this week's , we caught up with BA (Hons) English grad Chris Roberts! 📚 From studying Shakespeare at our Stoke campus to building Risk and Assurance departments in the construction industry, Chris is the ultimate example of where a Staffs degree can take you.

It’s not just about the boardroom, though! Chris is a man of many talents: ✍️ Commended short story writer (Bournemouth Writing Prize 2024). 🍻 Former microbrewery founder via the SPEED Plus programme (any other grads remember this?!) and now currently taking on the challenge of walking 2,000 miles of Britain’s canals for ! 🚶‍♂️

You might even spot him on Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes soon! 📺

Chris’s top tip for students? "Be proactive! No one else is going to do it for you. Put in the work, and it will be worth it."

“Studying at Staffs is a transformational process - it will definitely take you places.” ✨🎨

Meet this week’s - Ed Catley, the driving force behind the internationally acclaimed 'Printing in...' projects and Course Leader for Art and Design at Shrewsbury College!

Ed didn't just want to make art; he wanted to understand how to make art happen. By studying MA Design Management at our Stoke campus, he learned to bridge the gap between the studio and the gallery, turning creative visions into global reality. 🌍

Why we’re inspired by Ed: 🖼️ His portraits and prints are held in the United Kingdom’s National Art Collection. 🗺️ His work has traveled from the US and Europe to the Middle and Far East. 🎓 He’s shaping the next generation of artists by blending research with practice.

Ed’s secret to success? A "Say YES" philosophy. "To be successful in the art world, you have to live it," he says. "Never look back, never give up."

What’s your advice for current students? "Stay positive, be optimistic, and take care of business!" 💼✨

“Staffs taught me to be bold, courageous, and to stay true to my faith, passions, and beliefs.” ✨✊

This , we’re spotlighting the incredible Nom Ncube! Since graduating in 2020, Nom has transformed from a student photographer into a powerhouse lens-based artist and Creative Producer.

As the founder of Mabuza Studio, Nom uses her camera to "forge new narratives that celebrate our full humanity." Her work isn't just art - it's advocacy. From exploring Southern African traditions to her powerful portraits on colourism, she is reclaiming identities and challenging the status quo.

Her tip for current students? “Please play! Have fun experimenting. Don't be afraid to explore subject matters that make you uncomfortable - that is where the growth happens.” 💞

We love it when reach out with some gems they've stumbled across!

: Coding Before the Cloud! 💻📜

For this week’s throwback, we’re taking a trip back to the early 70s with a fantastic memory shared by alumnus Steve, an image taken at the North Staffs Polytechnic graduation ceremony in 1973 🤩

Computing looked a little different back then! Forget instant results and high-speed Wi-Fi; Steve remembers the days when programming meant punched cards. Students would hand over their carefully prepared stacks to the dedicated computer staff, who would feed them into the machines and return the printed results.

It wasn't just about the tech, though - it was about the people. Steve recalls:

"If we were working on a project, we would sometimes be there late at night processing our programmes, I still think of them as they were then, even though they must now be around their 80s!!"

Even though decades have passed, Steve still fondly remembers the staff who kept the machines running through those midnight sessions. 🌙

Kieran is making waves (literally!) as the Operations Manager at Scarborough Sea Life Centre and his hard work has earned him a nomination for Apprentice of the Year at the University of Staffordshire Business Awards! 🏆

Kieran took his career to the next level by completing a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) with Staffs, graduating with a Distinction. 👏🎓

During his studies, he launched the Local Ambassador Scheme across Merlin Entertainments connecting attractions from Weymouth to Loch Lomond. 🎢🌊

We love seeing our alumni make a difference! 💞🥰

We want to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent within our global alumni network. 🤩

It’s , and we’re taking a trip down memory lane to look at student accommodation! 🏠

The first thing we noticed? The posters on the walls! 👌

Looking at these photos makes us want to fire up Ghost on the TV (it must be streaming somewhere?!) and crack out the hairspray. 💇‍♀️📺

Does this take you back? 🤔
Move-in day? 🎁
Late-night study sessions? 📚
Meeting friends for life for the very first time? 💕

Thinking of all the memories made within these walls has us feeling all the feels. 🥹

But while we love where we’ve been, we’re even more excited about where we’re going. 🤩

As many of you have seen, work is well underway on some huge changes at the Stoke campus. If you’ve visited (or revisited) recently, you’ll have spotted the diggers, the construction, and that brand-new bridge. 🌉

These upgrades are guaranteed to make our alumni jealous! (Though you can always come back for a PG degree... just saying! 😉) 🛠️✨

I wonder if they’ll let us hop on a digger when the old digs finally come down?! 🚜👷‍♀️

We are bursting with pride to see the entries coming in for the Alumni Business Person of the Year at the 2026 University of Staffordshire Business Awards!

First up is the amazing Alumni Jodie Steele. Her journey from late-night study sessions to becoming a powerhouse entrepreneur is inspiring! 🎓💪

Since graduating in Marketing in 2003, Jodie’s career has taken her across the globe. But it was her own lived experience with neurodiversity and a late ADHD diagnosis that sparked her most impactful chapter yet.

Jodie hasn't just built a business; she’s built an ecosystem:

💡 NeuroTalks: Helping organisations create neuro-inclusive, high-performing environments.

🌍 Alchemy Souls Travel: A wellbeing-led travel storytelling brand.

🌱 Aura & Ash: A sustainability-focused lifestyle brand.

Jodie says: "I’m a graduate of University of Staffordshire... it is part of my identity as a business leader."

We are so proud to be part of your story, Jodie! 👏

A massive thank you to Stephanie Weston for digging this gem out of their archives and sending it to us!

We’re whisking you back to roughly 2004 for a legendary night out at Gobble. 🍺✨

Look at that squad! 😍

The hair, the outfits, the “we’ve definitely been in the LRV since it opened” energy... it’s 10/10. We can practically hear the pop-punk and cheesy floor-fillers just by looking at this.

We have to ask:

1️⃣ What was your go-to drink order? 🍻
2️⃣ What music can you hear looking at this picture? 🎶
3️⃣ Tag the person who was always the last one on the dance floor! 🪩

As always – send over your throwback photos to feature in a future 🤩
